March 30, 2015
The rush of Wrestlemania is always exciting. I've always dreamed if it.
Just a dreamer in the crowd eleven years ago, and fast forward to today, and I've been in three Wrestlenania's.
The day after is just as great, the crowd is wild , and the energy of the fans is at an all time high.
I've wanted this since I was a young girl and I've lived my dream, but today is a difficult day. After my tag match tonight, I'm heading to Vince McMahon's office to give him my shocking news.
As of today, March 30, 2015, I have decided to retire from my dream, my passion, wrestling.
Walking into his office was nerve racking.
"A.J. how are you?" Vince says in a greeting tone.
"I've been OK." I said blatantly.
"So, what brings you by the office today?" The Chairman questioned.
"Ok Mr. McMahon, I don't know how I'm going to say this, but here it goes... I'm ready to be let out of my contract."
When I said those words my heart felt like it exploded. Vince's face was in disbelief.
"April, I'm shocked. Your are the top diva right now, and you have a huge fan base. This is your dream. Why would you give all of this up?" He asked me still in disbelief.
"Well you see... I'm retiring. I've enjoyed my time with WWE. I've been living my dream this past few years, it's just that I'm not enjoying it anymore. The atmosphere is uncomfortable, I've lost the passion of this business, the dedication. I feel like I've done enough in my career to just... stop."
Those words were the most difficult ones that I've had to say in my entire life. A nearly life long dream that I was going to give up.
"Are there any specific things that have made you uncomfortable?"
"Well creative is lazy and sexist, booking is bad, the storylines in our division are repetitive, and I just feel like I'm done with everything."
"A.J. I'm sorry you feel that way. I feel like the Give Divas a Chance movement has been great." Vince stated.
"It shouldn't have even taken that to make you guys spark interest in our division. I feel like you won't let us be able to be just as good as the guys, and I cannot stay anymore." I spoke, feeling myself growing even more frustrated.
"I really thought that this movement was great. The men are the mold of this business, and they should get most of the spotlight. I feel like we're doing the best we can for the Divas division. Are you sure this is what you really want?" He asked.
I had to bounce those words around in my head. Are you sure this is what you really want? Im not having fun doing what I love anymore, and I feel like this is what I needed to do.
I've stayed in this company throughout all the things they've done to Philip. They fired him on our wedding day, then publicly stated that he quit on TV.
I can't work for a company where all the women are to fans is bathroom breaks, and that the Divas don't have character because we all are catty and hate each other. I've tried to stick it out, but I can't anymore.
I decided to stay all this time, and he supported me because he knew this was my dream, but now I need to leave and start a new chapter in my life. So, I finally made my decision.
"Yes. I would like to retire."
"Ok A.J., You still have time left on your contact, but we will allow you to run out your contact as you exit. Is this okay with you?"
"Yes sir."
"I'm sorry this has to end this way. We support you with all you plan to do in your life."
I wrapped up with Vince, and hugged him for all he's let me accomplish.
I said my final goodbyes to Saraya, Trinity, Bailey, and others.
"I'll miss you my little geek" Saraya says emotionally.
"I'll miss you to my little crumpet" I said with a smile and tears in my eyes.
"We've been through it all since NXT season 3, and now we're saying goodbye." Trinity said in tears.
"Trinity, you know I'll definitely miss you. Make sure you continue to give is all that energy in the ring." I said with tears of joy.
The three of us hugged and I went to pack up my things from the locker room.
I looked around the locker room thinking of the memories I've made the past four years.
"Goodbye."I said as I walked out. I headed out of the arena, and took one last skip outside the arena.
