{sarah pov}

it's raining in columbus.
it's raining, and all i can think of is the fact that i forgot to put the goddamn cat back inside.
it's raining, and here i am, driving twenty minutes back to my house for a fucking cat.
it's raining, and all i can think of is that ashley's going to be so unbelievably pissed that i'm late to class.
ashley.
i forgot to text ashley.
pulling out my phone, i glance at the road quickly before diverting my attention to the handheld device.
Incoming call from: ash
"sarah katherine roth, where the hell are you?"
her voice rings out, just a bit too loudly for my poor eardrums. i pull the phone away from my ear and wince.
"relax, ash. i left the cat out and it's raining..."
"yeah, no shit it's raining. when will you be here?"
i sigh.
she won't appreciate this.
"i'll be late."
silence.
"okay."
"ash, if it's a problem i can just-"
"no, no. you're right. it's fine. take care of your cat."
i slam my palm against the steering wheel. yep, she's mad.
we exchange goodbyes and i apologize once more before hanging up.
at this point, i'm about three minutes away.
a flash of color, out the right window.
what is that?
i turn, forgetting to watch the road.

crash.
glass breaks.
metal bends.
sirens.
fading.
have to hold on.
ashley...

it's raining in columbus.
