Becky and I both got ready and helped each other choose the right makeup to where for the night; I'd have to admit in the end we both looked pretty good.
'You look smashing!' I said to Becky taking a quick look at her as she danced around the room to the song "Home" by Gabrielle Aplin. The song made me think of my life as it is now...so different from what it was before.
'Do ya think it looks right?' Becky asked skeptically.
'Heck, yeah... James will definitely think so...' I said cheekily.
'How do you know he likes me?' Becky asked looking for an answer.
'You can just tell!' I said positively 'He's always nice to you, and he talks about you nicely too, unlike everyone else he talks about' I said cheerfully.
'Huh!' She said in disbelief 'I'll have to try to find out...somehow' she said throwing her hair up in a quick pony tail.
'You look pretty good yourself' Becky said as she looked at my outfit up and down.
'Aw, thanks but not as nice as you' I said sarcastically.
'Get real...We both look good!' Becky said turning on her phone for a photo. 'Smile' Becky said snapping selfies of us with our heads beside each other with smiles as wide as our faces...This one was definitely going on my bedroom wall; I needed an update of photos badly!
We walked out to the lounge room to wait for Sam and Peter's arrival to pick us up; Tom and James were already waiting in there slouched on the couch.
'When should the guys get here?' I asked sitting down in an armchair couch.
Tom looked at his watch. 'At about 8:00pm - so in about twenty mins'
'Thanks' I said to Tom.
...Silence...
'So where did you live before you came here?' Asked James trying to make conversation
...Silence...
I stared at the brown floorboards avoiding all three pairs of eyes burning into me; Tom on the other hand was just as interested as James at the strenuous question.
Why did he have to ask that? Of all times...I thought to myself.
'Umm...from a suburb near Melbourne....' I said slowly.
'City girl' James said animated 'Must be different for you out here?' He added.
'Yeah, it is very different!' I said honestly.
This time Tom asked a question I did not want to answer 'So why did you come here then?' Tom asked suspiciously as his tall muscular figure lay on the long couch staring at the ceiling.
I looked straight at him, I didn't want to answer Tom's question but I had to be honest about it.
'Well...My Mum and Dad both got killed in a car accident a couple of months ago' I said in a small voice.
I could feel everyone's eyes staring at me. Shit this is awkward!
'Fuck' James said letting the "ck" linger in the room 'that's why you were so shitty'!
'Yeah. . .' I squinted.
'Looks like they're here' Becky said cutting in, knowing that she had just saved me from a bucket load of questions.
