CHAPTER FIVE

The road to the school was a winding one. It was long, black, and I guess you could say haunting. The school did look welcoming. I never really been to a school before but I guess this was what one was supposed to look like. Tall, long, red brick. The windows were framed with black wood that shined in the sunlight and in big white letters above what I assumed to be the front door, read the came of the school. Clairvoyance Middle East High.

“This is… strange.” I mumbled. “We assumed that this would be a big change for you, coming from the orphanage and all. So we set you up with a great roommate. His name is—“ “His!?” my panic was prominent throughout my whole body. I never did well around other males. I mean, my only two friends were girls and all of the guys at the orphanage picked on me. so, you could see where my panic came from.

“His name is Dillian. He’s part of the welcoming committee and he is a senior so he’d only be your roommate for the remainder of this year.”

That gave me a small bit of comfort but my skin still itched and felt bothered by the fact that not only was he my roommate but a senior as well. Despite their attempts to calm me down by telling me he was polite, I had my doubts.

Kids, especially teens, were different around adults than the way they were behind closed doors. I almost shook with my uneasiness. My nerves vanished all logic thought from my mind and they were still jumping when the couple, (Elaine and Pablo as I became to know them as), helped me carry my bags into the school.

It was quite large and I had to take a deep breath to steady myself before fully emerging into the old fashioned building. I wished than that I could have been at ease enough to actually enjoy the fact that I was out in the real world. This was what I always wanted, was it not?  Truth is, I never been out of the orphanage before so this scared me half to death. I knew no one and no one acknowledged me as I passed by them, bumping into them as the struggled to get to where ever it was they were going.

“Make a left up here, Neo. Your room number is twenty-one sixty.”

When we approached the room, Elaine slipped the key card into the slot and pushed open the door. I expected the room to be like those at the orphanage but I probably should stop thinking like that. this was definitely nothing like the orphanage. This room was large and had black and red walls that were covered with pictures of people and placed that I had never seen before. My jaw dropped when I stepped in.

The beds were fit for a queen and I mine was already made up with black sheets and a comforter. At the bottom was a little white pillow with green writing. I picked it up, running my fingers along the familiar stitching.

Neo. That’s what it read and it had a heart right next to it. I sighed. Leighton. How long had she known that I was to leave? The memory of her made my heart ache.

“Your friend knew more about you than she let on. I was surprised.” I gasped at the voice a turned swiftly to only see s guy standing in front of me. Pablo and Elaine were no where to be found but the left my bags posted up against the door.

“Oh they left like five minutes ago. I’m Dillian by the way.” He held out his outstretched hand but I could only stare at it and swallow down the lump that formed in my throat. “It’s ok. I get it. Your friend informed me on how you are.” He shrugged. “I’ll get used to it as quickly as you will get used to me being around.”

He was definitely stranger than the boys at the orphanage. He seemed genuinely kind and he smiled an awful lot. He looked a lot different as well. He had wild scruffy blonde hair with almost see through clear blue eyes that were framed with a set of thick long lashes. I was guessing that he stood at about six foot two. I stared like I was lost and the only thing that I could say was, “Uhm, thanks.” And than I placed my attention back to the pillow. At least I had a piece of home with me.
