I dived a perfect, graceful dive off the diving board and felt myself plunge in and slice deeper and deeper down through the water. I opened my eyes a second before my feet touched the bottom of the 12 foot and with chlorine clouding my vision, I pushed off and shot back up to the surface.
"...and that's a new record!" I climbed up the ladder and raised my arms triumphantly. Cheering erupted and the sound bounced off the walls, echoing across the water. I grabbed my towel and fast-walked across the pool deck and into the locker room. "Lina!" A girl with brown hair, green eyes, and a warm smile turns from a locker and jogs across the room. "You were great out there!" she says. I smile. "Thanks Tay, you were great too." she nods. "I practiced forever for my dive." She says, "But you... You're naturally great. It's amazing." I shrug. "I don't know how that happened. My dad isn't a 'water' person, my mom isn't either." Taylor nods. "It's your gift." she says, smiling. I smile back and we go back out to the pool area. Multiple people came over to congratulate me, and eventually the
steady trickle of people stopped. The meet was over. Taylor and I started heading over to the locker room to change into dry clothes, and when we walked in, girls ran over and flooded me with questions. "How are your dives so perfect..." "Your arc is amazing, how do you do it..." "Wow! Can you teach me..." I pushed through the group and grabbed my clothes. "Sorry, can't talk now!" I replied quickly. I ran into a stall and changed quickly. I heard Taylor outside trying to get the girls to change and go back to what they were doing before. I mentally said thanks. I waited till almost all the feet were gone, and the rest were scattered in different places before I came out. I slung my bag over my shoulder and linked my arm through Taylor's. We walked out of the building and into the parking lot. My dad pulls up in his Subaru Outback. A familiar girl with beach-blond waves and blue eyes like Perrie Edwards walked up. "Hi Lina, Tay." She said. "Hi Lexie." Taylor and I said in unison. We laughed and Alexia smiles, "You were great out there!" "Thanks." I say. We pile in the car, and dad congratulates me on my dive. "Thanks dad." We drop off Taylor and Alexia then arrive at home. I kick off my shoes and walk down the hallway. I climb up the stairs and look at the end table that is at the top. There are pictures of me in the pool, a few where I'm mid-dive, one where my arms are raised like today, and many where I have ribbons pinned to my shirt or a medal around my neck. I turn away and walk into my room. I toss my bag on my bed and look at my left wall. It's a huge mirror. I use it for practicing my dance routines. (I take dance, I'm on the diving team, and I'm on the soccer team. Yes, I have a very busy schedule.)
