Chapter One
Lost
A drizzle. A hum. A smirk crept up my lips. A giggle. I sighed audibly.
"Come out, come out wherever you are!" was the standard call. I flinched. A mosquito had bitten me. After a grin, I creaked open my eyes. The trees blurrily came into a fresh, spring-green focus, outlining the wash of grey rocks surrounding the stream. I froze. A shuffle. More shuffling...behind me!
"Aha! There you are!" I screeched, catching a pale-pink material behind the bark of a tree. Vicious squeals of glee were let loose, as my brother and sister raced from their hiding spots, eager for the chase. A grin took over my lips, as I hopped over the rocks, and over to them. They kept squealing, running madly.
Sigh. They never gave up-convinced that somehow, they could outrun their fifteen-year old big-sister.
Sigh. How honorable, I thought, and picked up the pace. I loved to run. What could I say? It was in my blood. Trees flashed past me blindingly-Jeremy and Adele might have gotten a head-start, but they were still only four and eight years old. Once my wolf-speed kicked in- my grin stretched wider. Well. There was nothing they could do about it.
My bare feet pounded into the dirt, exhilarating my mind and body with some force unknown-all I knew was-that I was free....and I loved it. I didn't even notice when I'd ran straight past them-so caught up was I in the thrill of the chase. My eyed snapped shut as my speed increased, forcing the flap of ratty t-shirt up, and exposing my bra-less chest.
I giggled at that. How totally free was that-?
When, smack.
I toppled onto something hard, and the breath left my lungs as arms came to wrap around my waist, and we rolled harshly in the dirt. Heat radiated onto my body, and I giggled, despite the increasing cuts that tore my skin with every roll. I hadn't been running-I had been fucking flying-
"Jesus Bloody Christ, Lana, what the hell?" He exploded, from underneath me. I was still laughing uncontrollably-tears were in my eyes as I chuckled, squashing his body in the dirt. Well-not really. Tyler was bigger than me. I sat up to straddle him, his arms still holding tightly to my waist.
"Huhhahahaa..ha, ha!" I continued laughing. As he scowled.
Well. That had been no experiment. This wasn't the first time I'd madly crashed into Tyler on his way from a local Pack. Tyler, Tyler, Tyler. Always Mr. Responsible. His grey eyes narrowed at me disapprovingly, from his handsome face. My laughing tamed a bit, as I studied his features.
Tyler really was the most handsome boy I'd ever seen. Literally. It was hard to check out the other fish in the sea when you've lived in a forest with your siblings and Guardian for the past three years. Not that I-had a thing for him. I couldn't.
I mean, sure, he had the prettiest, most bronzed skin-tone ever. And a curly mop of chocolate hair...and that "beauty-mark" I always teased him about under his right-eye....yeah. Tyler was nothing special. Except...for those biceps and abs of his...always bulging from under his shirt.
When he wore one.
"...I'm serious, Lana, get off of me! What if it wasn't me you'd crashed into, huh? What if it had been a rogue? What if it had been one of them you'd-"
"Madly toppled to the ground? What? You can't admit to being beat by a girl?" I taunted amusedly, leaning over his abdomen, my chin in the palm of my right-hand. His pink lips widened in protest, before he scowled again. His cheeks turned pink. I giggled again. I was right.
