As I sat, I grew tired. As I nodded of into sleep, I remembered that demons weren't supposed to sleep. What was happening to me?

I was woken by a soft nudge. She was awake. Then I was shoved roughly aside.
I opened my eyes. She was running away from me, stumbling through the damp sand. My tired brain didn't care.
The reality of the situation hit me like a brick. She was running away! Moments later, I too, was staggering down the beach, taxed with sleep.
As a human, I could dement that I had been the fastest runner in my high school, and being a demon only heightened that skill. Before long, I caught up to her and tackled her to the sand, pinning her down.
Her blue eyes looked up at me in fear. She opened her mouth and spoke.

"What do you want from me?"

I touched her face gently, slightly hurt by her seemingly paralyzing fear of the young man holding her down.

"Don't act so scared, darling. Without me, you would t even be alive."

She shuddered at my touch, then asked;
"Are you going to make me crumbly, like you?"

I had no idea what she meant, so making sure she wasn't going to take off again, I walked over to the edge of the lake and stared at my reflection in the glassy water. My face looked like the Sahara, cracking from lack of hydration.
I was that dehydrated? Fine.

I jumped into the freezing water, trying to put some moisture back into my dry body. It didn't work.

"What's happening to me?!?!?" I yelled to no one in particular.

"Is it possible that maybe you are turning human?"

"NO. No way. Not going to happen ever."

"Well, I don't know that much about demons, but you don't look like one in THAT state. Plus, you saved me, instead of killing me, and I'm pretty sure that's counts for something. Maybe you're turning human as a reward for saving me?"
She said, staring at me, probably because of my reaction.
I was kneeling on the ground, bent over, inhaling sand, coughing, and having a level one mental breakdown.
"No." I wheezed. " Not human."

"Well, I at least need to know the name of the alleged "demon" that's saved me. Human or not."

"I hardly see how that is relevant, at a time like this. But I understand, that you humans have your customs, so I will comply. My name is Kai, Pure One." I spat.
"As I have told you my name, you must now tell me yours."

"Sadie. And you could be a little nicer. I did almost die."

"Yes. The almost is my fault. You should be dead right now. You're alive because of my inability to kill you."
And so I explained everything I could remember. From my death, to becoming a demon fledgling. I even told her about the demon council trying to kill the Pure One, and me being only the first of many sent out for vengeance and freedom.

We walked through the woods in silence for the next few hours. She didn't dare to look at me. We also had no idea where we were going. We walked through the woods until it was dark, then stopped and set up a fire  near a hollowed out oak tree so we could sleep for the night.
My face had started to change again. At first, it had been a depressing shade of gray, which contrasted well with my yellow cat/demon eyes, which were always shaded by my shaggy black hair anyway. Then it had changed to looking dehydrated, with a pale white complexion and textured like parched earth.

Now, it was rough and flaky, and I almost had a normal human complexion. I was starting to feel strange, too.
Almost, happy.
