Prologue

Centuries before my father, our tribe's roots were created. A man that went by the name of Haldor son of Igor; beholden to nothing and no one, set out on a journey with his wife and two children.

The journey was anything but easy.

There were harsh storms, and winds that caused them to be blown off track. They traveled through two mountain ranges and an ocean before they finally discovered a land that I now, call home.

Haldor got right to work, and they began to build settlements called huts, made out of straw and wood.
The land was rich with nutrients. Our settlements sat on a cliff overlooking a crystal ocean. Just below, was a golden-sand beach, allowing access to the water, and a pine forest was just a three-minute walk away.

I guess you could call it the perfect accommodation.
Life was simple. The men hunted, the women cooked, and the children played.

Soon, our population grew, and after several years we were big enough to be a tribe.

Our people agreed, we were to be called the Suione tribe.
Though our people were peaceful, fights started to break out. It finally got to the point where everyone was at everyone's throat. Our tribe finally decided a chief had to be established.

Though many of our people were appointed, none seemed especially worthy.

Beginning at the break of dawn, and lasting far into the nights, our people set the standards for how the chief must act.

According to our people, only two men were up to these standards. Haldor, son of Igor, and Ove son of Aslor.
Finally, after seven days, a compromise was reached. Haldor, was to be the new chief.

Out of rage, Ove swore to avenge the injustice that was committed. He left, taking some of his follower with him, and they were never seen again.

Though many people were irked by Ove's decision, there was a big celebration commemorating the new beginning.
Soon enough, the celebration became a yearly festivity.
For years after, our people lived in peace, but our people yearned for adventure.

They wanted to conquer lands unknown to all; to roam the stormy seas.

So, Chief Haldor appointed a group of the strongest men, and sent them out to sea in search of land. When they finally returned, the men were armed with bounty miles high.

Which is how we finally earned the title of vikings.
Immediately after, we sent out another ship; coming back with more supplies. Soon we were the largest and most powerful tribe there was. It stayed that way for many more years.

However, in Haldor's old age he grew ill. Though we had the finest clariks look at him, Haldor received the news he would only last for two more weeks.

Our people wept for their Cheif; knowing another must be chosen.

They determined that since Haldor was Cheif, his son would succeed him.

The day before Haldor died, he did something very strange to the Suione tribe. Though he was weak, Haldor insisted on going into the forest late into the night. The Clariks tried to stop him, insisting he was too ill, but Haldor was persistent. He said it was something he had to do before he died. So the Clariks let him.

Late the next morning, Haldor returned with a content air about him. Though people questioned Haldor, their Chief refused to tell

The next day, he died peacefully in his sleep.
To this day none know exactly what Haldor did in the woods. Some think he was making peace with the gods, but we all know that something else happened, something Haldor never told anyone about.

After his father died, Haldor's son became cheif, then his son, and his son, continuing until Cheif Asmund, my father, took up the role as cheif of the Suione tribe.

Hey guys! Thank you so much for reading. I really hope you liked this first part of the book.
Just so you all know, the main religion I'm focusing on is norse. So, for the most part I will be explaining who the gods are, but if any of you get confused, please tell me, and I'll try to fix that the best I can.
Another thing about that is, I'm going to try to make this as accurate as possible, but since there isn't that much information on vikings (that I've found) I'm having to make up some stuff for the story. So please, don't go writing a report over vikings on what you learned from my book. (Oooooh, learning, fuuuun).
I'm going to try to update my book every week, but please be understanding if that doesn't happen. I'm a really busy person who writes for fun.
Thank you, that is all.
