Einar dragged me by the hand through the thickening crowd.
As we scurried past, some people gave us looks of distaste, others just shook their heads and continued walking. I didn't think too much about it though. I was just excited to see what Einar was going to show me.
We ran past the huts, and up the hill to the flower field. There was a nice overlook of the village from here, but it was far away enough to give us a bit of privacy."Now what was so important we had to come all the way here?" I said breathlessly.
"Well, it's not so much show as it is tell." Einar sat in the grass, causing pollen to get all over his celebration shirt. I laughed and sat with him. A cool breeze blew the grass and flowers.
"I got offered an apprenticeship to Olin's. He wants me to become an iron worker. I've decided to take it." Einar said calmly.
"Well, that's great! You can finally get away from the farm like you've always wanted to!" I bobbed up and down excitedly, my excitement quickly turned to worry though, "but what did your father say?"
Einar's father had always wanted his son to be a cultivator like himself, but Einar hated nothing more than plants. He had always tried to get away from it ever since he was little, but his father was convinced otherwise. He just assumed Einar would get over it and come to his senses.
"I haven't told him yet." Einar suddenly became very interested with ripping a flower to shreds.
"You have to tell him sometime. He needs to understand you don't want to be like him."
"I know, I just... I get where he's coming from. Farming has been in our generation for years. I'll be the first son to go a different path." He sprinkled the remains of the flower, and began to shred another.
"I think your overreacting. If you really want to do this, your father should understand. He can't keep you imprisoned like this. Besides your almost nineteen."
"I guess so, I've always tried to be his perfect son. I don't want to dissapoint him." Einar dropped the flower shreds, and ran a hand through his already messy hair.
"Einar, you can't go saying things like that. You are perfect. Just a different kind of perfect than your father was expecting." I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Thanks Solvi." He smiled.
We sat there in silence a few moments; just enjoying the silence; staring at the ocean.
From where we sat we could see the sea. There was a small slope going down to the beach a little ways ahead of us.
Suddenly a ship came into view.
"They're back!" I screamed into Einar's ear. He flinched and started laughing.
I jumped up and ran down the hill, not looking back to see if Einar was coming.
The warriors were back, and more importantly, my father was back!
Yay! The book is about to get to get really good really soon. I promise!
Also, I'm deciding whether or not to continue Gone or not. I've been brainstorming some more ideas for it. I'm wondering if you guys would like to see more of it, or am I just wasting time?
Tomorrow is the last dress rehearsal of a show I'm in. I'm really excited for the show to start. Unfortunately, this is the most stressful week in the rehearsal process. Either way, I think the show is looking fantastic,
