(unedited)

Calum sat on the couch, his legs crisscrossed and his calculus book on his lap with Luke sitting next to him.

Luke sighed, hitting his head on the calculus book and looked at Calum, "Do we have to study? I can't focus."

Calum fiddled with his thumbs and used his pointer finger to push up his glasses that were falling off, "Yes, we have to. I don't know about you, but I want to get out of here."

Calum looked at Luke with big brown eyes and suddenly Luke was back to studying with his best friend. He didn't mind studying but he just couldn't focus. He'd do anything to make Calum happy and if that meant studying, then so be it.

Calum wasn't like most teenagers. He longed for schoolwork because it gave him a distraction from his home life. He has only has two friends that are dating, not that he minds, but it makes him feel more lonely. He doesn't have a social life, or a life at all but he doesn't mind.

The only thing he has in common in most of the people in his school is his huge crush on Michael Clifford. Calum has never talked to him before but they've made eye contact plenty of times and all of those times it consist of Michael smiling brightly at him and Calum blushing as red as a tomato.

Calum and Luke had been studying for two hours and neither of them noticed until Luke gasped as he looked at the clock, "It's almost eight! I've got to get home."

Luke suddenly stopped packing his things and hesitantly looked at Calum, "Do you want to stay over my house? I know how much you hate it here and I can't do much but I'm trying Cal, I swear it."

Calum nervously fiddled with his thumbs out of habit and hesitantly shook his head. His parents weren't home, thankfully, but he couldn't just leave or else he's get in so much trouble.

"No, I'll be fine. I'll see you and Ashton tomorrow." Calum attempted to smile, but he was just wishing he could go over Luke's house and just forget that his parents don't love him.

Luke slowly nodded and kissed Calum's cheek before grabbing his backpack and heading out the door. Calum sighed, wishing he had sibling to talk to. But no, he was all alone and that's depressing.

Calum packed up his stuff neatly and headed up stairs to his room. His room was just like you would expect it to be, neat. But he did have some band posters and a Pirates of the Caribbean poster, which Ashton got him for his fifteenth birthday and he's loved it ever since.

It was almost nine so he decided that it would be a good idea to take a shower and go to bed before his parents got home and started their daily routine. He grabbed a pair of sweatpants, his favorite T-Shirt and headed to the shower.

It took Calum thirty minutes to shower, simply because he loves standing under the hot water and not thinking about life and just letting the muscles in his body relax. As he finished drying his body off, he heard the front door open.

Calum's eyes widened as he heard something breaking downstairs which sounded like glasses. He hurriedly put on his clothes and exited the bathroom and into his room where we knew he was somewhat safe in.

It didn't take long until Calum heard what his parents were fighting about.

"This happens every time I get my paycheck! I get paid, you take the money out of my account, and you get drunk! You come home and verbally abuse not only me but our own son! What the hell is wrong with you?!" Calum heard his mother scream. He nodded along with her, he knows his father takes money from his mom and uses it to get drunk but doesn't say anything because of what the outcome.

"Well I wouldn't have to use your damn money and get drunk and come home to yell at you if you weren't such a piece of shit family!" Calum heard his father yell as well as glass breaking. His heart broke into pieces at what his father said because really, was he really making his family turn into shit? He knew his father was only this bad when drunk, but drunk words are sober thoughts.

Calum gained some confidence and slowly made his way downstairs, he knew it was stupid to do so but he wanted to make sure his parents were alive. As soon as he reached the kitchen, his father turned to him and his eyes  softened but still burned with rage.

"Go upstairs, Calum." Calum's father breathed through his nose heavily and gripped the new  bottle of whiskey that he grabbed the counter.

Calum shook his head and stood beside his mom, "I-I can't, Y-You hu-"

"I said get the fuck up to your room and don't fucking come out!" Calum's father threw the bottle of whiskey at Calum. Calum whimpered as the bottle hit his head and his body fell to the floor. He didn't expect that but he should have. He should have listened in the first place.

"W-Why would you do that to my baby?! What kind of piece of shit father are you! You wi-" Calum winced as his father slapped his mother across the face. He was disgusted with his father.

"You are not the man I married!" Joy yelled furiously. David's eyes softened as he looked the two people he was suppose to love and take care of.

Calum rubbed his head and sat up. He couldn't deal with his parents anymore so he forced his body to get up and dragged himself upstairs to his room.

That night, he cried himself to sleep. But that wouldn't be the first time he's done that.
