Ally Hills was lying to everybody. Not about everything, per se, just about her emotional state. It wasn't too hard to do. After all, she was pretty good at acting, and it wasn't like everything else in her life wasn't pretty good. She had a ton of great friends, she was finally a senior, and people loved her. Something about her having been the first out lesbian at her high school in sophomore year made her relatively popular – especially with fellow gay people who had come out after her. Those included her best friends Shannon and Cammie.

It basically disproved what she had thought would happen when she came out. She had spent weeks struggling with her sexuality, and it had been months after that before she had decided to tell anyone. Of course, her best friend at the time had been one of those people – the ones who prefer spreading drama rather than keeping friends. And that was how the entire school found out about Ally's sexuality.

Luckily, it hadn't taken her too long to get over the fact that everyone knew. For some reason, a lot of people suddenly thought she was cooler, as weird as it may sound. On one hand, a lot of girls saw her as out of the guys' dating pools, and therefore not a threat. Contrarily, guys somehow saw her as a goal – which was completely disgusting and disrespectful, but at least they weren't hateful...right?

On top of that surprising result, a week after abandoning her "best friend" who outed her, Ally had been approached by two girls,Shannon and Cammie, both of whom came out to her. They were dating and hadn't told anyone, and they felt like the needed to tell someone. Personally, Ally didn't know how they managed to keep it a secret for so long, what with those looks they gave each other which totally screamed "ship us!".

Nevertheless, Ally became best friends with the couple, and was now friends with many other lesbians in the school. Surprisingly, there were a lot.

One of them was Katie White, a fellow senior with dark hair and alight complexion, and when she came out, Ally had been completely captivated by her. She had actually moved to the school around the same week that Ally had come out of the closet and, miraculously, had asked her out within a week of them knowing each other.

And they'd dated all through sophomore year, and through half of junior year, and it had been great. Ally had experienced her first kiss with a girl, her first love, and lost her virginity to Katie White. And then, halfway through the eleventh grade, Katie dumped her. It was completely out of nowhere, and seemingly without any motives. It took Ally two months afterward to get Katie to admit that she had just stopped having feelings for her. Had she known that initially, Ally probably wouldn't have hurt as much as she did.

The end of junior year was rough, since she'd grown accustomed to having someone with whom she was in a relationship, and that was torn from her. Summer wasn't as bad, because she spent it taking almost daily trips to the beach with Shannon and Cammie. Most of the time, they were good at making her not feel like a third wheel, but that didn't mean that she wasn't anyway. Sometimes they disappeared into their own little world, for anywhere from five minutes to fifty minutes, and Ally would just occupy herself on her phone and whatnot.

Despite the pain she still felt from feeling increasingly alone as school started, she put on her best face. She was a senior now, and college was always when people said that things got better. In her head, Ally had never pictured a popular girl needing to reassure herself that it would get better. She had never thought that she would ever feel so emotionally low, since she had so many friends, and a supportive family... but she still just felt so alone, and she didn't feel like she should talk about it at all.

She just always seemed to find herself wishing that she could have a relationship like Shannon and Cammie's.

Stevie Boebi, on the other hand, had never been near popular at her high school in Louisiana. Coming out of the closet hadn't been too much of a problem for her, but it was holding her own that she occasionally had issues with. Louisiana was definitely not he most open minded place, and once she told her group of friends about her sexuality, in the beginning of her junior year, the group had shrunk significantly.

It was a traumatic experience, to say the least. Stevie withdrew into herself even further than she had previously been, and was down to one or two friends who didn't seem to care as much as they had previously. Her brother Clay and her grandma, the two family members that she lived with, were both supportive of her, but junior year had been hard. Despite the difficulty, though, she had managed to meet one or two other lesbians in her town, one of which she dated for most of that school year, though they broke up during finals week.

The summer afterward, her brother was off to college in Los Angeles,California, and Stevie had sat down with him and her grandma to ask if she could go with him. Her brother was incredible, immediately saying yes, and that he would help her in any way possible, and her grandma had completely understood the reasoning.

So midsummer, before senior year, Clay packed up all of his things, and Stevie packed all of hers, and they were off. Her brother was renting an apartment, and he agreed to let her stay there for free until her senior year was over, at which point she would have to pay to stay or move out. She couldn't have been more grateful for her brother.

And her senior year of high school, as it began, was already looking up.

Especially when, on the first day of the second week of senior year, her eyes fell on a group of girls, laughing and smiling, two of them with their arms wrapped around one another. They kissed moments afterward, and that was when Stevie realized how good of an idea it had been to come to Los Angeles. She could already tell that it was going to be so much better there.

When her eyes fell on the third girl of the group, who had long black hair and blonde tips, she was completely captivated. Had she been a little more comfortable in her own skin, she may have gone to join the group and meet the beautiful girl, but...

Well... she wasn't quite there yet.
