"I don't see why you couldn't just get your jacket by yourself," I heard Casey's voice.
"Well maybe I liked the company," Cadan seemed a little less cheery than usual. Shit. I'm eavesdropping on Casey and Cadan... Mwahaha. Now I finally get to see my ship in action. Trust me, it's not creepy.
"Okay, why did you want me to come with you?"
"So, my mom called me this morning," he sounded really sad. I should not be listening. I should tell them I'm here, but my ship is important. I must learn.
"What'd she say?"
"My umm," he paused and his voice broke, "my grandpa died." Shit. Oh no, honey. I wish I could hug him right now.
"Oh my god, are you okay?"
"To be honest, I don't know. I should have been there for him. I knew he was sick and I decided to go on tour instead of say one last goodbye. He was that one person who was always there for me as a kid. He was the one that taught me most of my magic tricks and got ice cream with me on Sundays instead of going to church with Grandma. We went to Ghiradelli's ice cream and chocolate shop and would just sit on the black benches outside and talk about what was going on in our lives. I wish I could go with him to get one more mint chocolate chip on a waffle cone topped with fudge," he sighed.
"I'll go with you to Ghiradelli's."
"It's closed now," he tried to laugh; "I just wish I would've been there for the guy who was always there for me."
"I'm sorry."
"It's no one's fault. I just... I don't know."
"Do you need a hug?" I'm assuming they hugged from the long pause.
"Thank you."
"It's no problem."
"Damn, just say you're welcome," Cadan joked.
"You're welcome, Cadan," you could hear the roll of her eyes in her voice, "But, if you ever need anything, I'm here, okay?"
"Okay. The same applies to you too though."
"Yeah, I know."
"Do you really?"
"Yes."
"What's going on in your life right now? How are you feeling? How does that make you feel?" he did his best impersonation of a therapist.
"I'm on tour with a really lame band. I don't think you've heard of them," she joked.
"Bitch please; I know all of the bands."
"Defectless Xenogenesis."
"Dammit. I've never heard of that band in my life, and I know what 1 800 Zombie is."
"Who?"
"You don't want to know. Let's just say, 2005 was not a good year."
"You were only seven in 2005."
"Yes, but I would have been a Myspace scene king."
"Sure," you could hear the smirk by her tone.
"So, we should probably head back; I found my gloves." No ship! Don't go!
"Yeah," she sighed.
"What is it?"
"Nothing."
"What is it?"
"Nothing."
"Come on, what is it?"
"Oh my god, you're like a little kid," she laughed.
