Addressing The 'Daisy' In The Room

(Some Spoilers For The First Arc of Brother In Arms)

Okay, I didn't want to make this, but I can't ignore it anymore. 

For those who don't know, I have a Halo story called Brother In Arms. Nearly a year ago I had a vote whether or not to kill a character which was at the time the MC's love intrest, named Diasy the reason I created the vote was because I had spent over several months trying to figure out what to do and debating with myself whether or not to kill her to generate progression in the story plus a powerful character arc for the MC that would later be built up in the story.

 When I couldn't decide, I just let the readers decide her fate till a specific date. When the vote ended, it was a tie. So I decided to let fate handle it and flip a coin. Heads for save, tails for kill. It landed on tails.

Naturally, the response was...Heavy to say the least. I'm not going to say who, but you know who you are. But even months since the vote ended, there are still some people very angry with me about the result of the vote, to which I say this. Folks...The vote was a f*cking tie. What was I supposed to do? 

I spent months debating with myself on this idea, and when I gave the readers the chance to decide, the result was a tie. And just for clarification, I'm not blaming anyone who was involved in the voting, but you all have to realize that I had to end it; I did not want to deal with this predicament anymore. And for those who are asking me to create another Halo story just with Daisy as a love interest, no, I cannot do that. I am sorry, but I won't. I already have enough on my plate, and I cannot just make another Halo story just to satisfy other people.

So I ask those who are still leaving negative comments about this decision and begging me to change the story or write another Halo story: Please stop.

I understand being disappointed, but the choice was already made. The vote ended in a tie, and when I let fate decide after months of debating it myself, I accepted the result and moved on. I did not make that decision lightly, and I'm not going to reopen it after all this time.

I care about writing Brother in Arms; it has been a passion project of mine that I spent blood and tears on. I care about the people who read it, but I also have to be realistic about what I can take on. I cannot create another Halo story just to satisfy a specific outcome or character pairing. I already have enough on my plate regarding other stories I have committed to and regarding my personal life as a College Student. I want to focus on continuing the story I've already committed to instead of stretching myself too thin.

But please know that Daisy as a character will not be forgotten; her story will still impact the lives of others, and she may appear again in flashback form. But if these comments continue to persist, I will put Brother In Arms on indefinite hiatus until I feel like returning to the story. I don't want that to happen, but I can't deal with any more comments if this continues.

At the end of the day, I'm asking for respect for the decision that was made and for the time and effort I put into this story. You do not have to like it, but please stop harassing me over it or demanding that I change it. And the suggestion I am willing to give is this: if you guys wish to have Daisy as the main love interest for a Halo book, write it yourself. Isn't that why some of us decide to become writers on this site? To write something that hasn't been done before?

I've said what I needed to say, and I hope we can leave it here and move forward.
