"If someone had told me I'd actually get a job earlier that week, I would have called them crazy." Lidya giggled a bit, as did Irina, but Mikhail and his mother (that tagged along to see where he went each Friday) just smiled. While the teens were drinking Barq's Root Beer, Missus Hucker was eating dinner from the restaurant. Lidya thought it looked good as it definitely smelled good, but eating would be a distraction to listening. This new installment would be important because they all were.
"Sure," the Lady in Blue continued, "I had been wanting a job to save up for college, but I didn't think I would get one without even an interview first. But, hey, they wanted to hire me and I gladly accepted the work." She paused a bit. "Even if it was at Wal-Mart." This efficiently caused most of the subjects in the place to laugh. But people, such as Missus Hucker, just smiled. "Part time at Wal-Mart checking people out was my new job. How did they even know I was good with people? I could have been the most crude, harsh, curt, and anti-social person ever and I bet they would have still hired me. Yet, work was work as money was money. And I needed money."
Lidya could relate. There was this new book out that everyone in her school had been talking about, but she had no money to buy it and her parents wouldn't lend some to her. She just figured she could wait for someone to graciously lend her it. After all, a new book by Bodie Lawrence was not to be missed.
"I met some pretty cool people working for Wal-Mart, I won't lie. The other employees were kind of all nice in their own special ways and the customers weren't too bad either."

It was quite a slow day at Wal-Mart when a nice looking guy (like, seriously nice looking; his looks could have rivaled Agostino's) walked up to my aisle to get checked out. He looked at me with calico colored eyes framed by long and curling eyelashes. He had a friendly smile, showing straight and off-white teeth. His hair was disheveled, curly, and an alluring crow-black and looked soft to the touch. Wow, he looked good, but Agostino was still number one in my mind.
"Hello," he said, "What a fair day, don't you agree?" He placed his items, silly little things like a slinky and toothpaste, on the counter. "It does seem as if it might rain today. But I like rainy days, so that's okay. I see the glass half full, that is the key."
It took me a moment, but I registered that he has a Russian accent. "Um," I tried. "Thanks for talking to, uh, me. I kind of don't know what to say. Um, I like rainy days, too, if I may. I'm done checking you out if you look, see?" Because, honestly, I did and he wasn't making a grab for his wallet. I guess I couldn't hate on him too much. He was a weird one after all.
"Sorry, I was distracted by your looks." He got out his wallet as I discreetly blushed by looking away to the monitor. "Here you are, these items are now paid for." I accepted his money and put it in the cash register.
Then I did the routine of promoting stock. "Have you seen our wide collection of books?" He smirked dazzlingly at my sarcasm. Yeah, like Wal-Mart has a big selection of books. "They have prices that will make your heart soar."
He picked up his two plastic bags of whatever, turned from me, but held up a bag-less hand in good-bye. All the while, he called back, "Note that all crooks are still all crooks." Did he just quote a Lil' Wayne song? "Be careful, Nika, because he'll be back for more." Huh? He? Dang, this guy was crazy. He may look good, but he was loopy in the head. It made me wish I didn't have to wear a name-tag for work. Hopefully, he won't be back.
After Mr. Calico-Eyed Russian, as I had come to call him, left, it was a pretty normal part-time day. And, of course, I mentioned him to Agostino in a text later.
