Chapter 5

Later that night as I was doing my homework, I got a text from Jeff saying: "Picnic tmmr. Wear something cute! ;) Leave everything else to me. 7pm @ Lima Park. See you then."

I smiled to myself, and I could no longer focus on my homework. I just had to study for a calculus quiz I had tomorrow, but I knew I would pass it. I headed over to my iHome and plugged in my iPhone, and blasted some music. I walked into my closet, and start looking around.

After going through tons and tons of clothes, I finally settled on a light pink lace dress, navy blue wedges, and a matching pink clutch. I looked over at my clock and saw that it was past ten, so I headed to my bathroom. I took my contacts out, took my makeup off, brushed my teeth and just stared. I didn't notice I was smiling, but I'm just so excited. I hopped into bed, and closed my eyes and thought about tomorrow...

I woke up the next morning really early. I had a nightmare that Jeff ended our friendship because he thought I was trying to act as a spy to sabotage the Warblers. He said the meanest things to me, and I actually woke up because it felt so real. I checked the time, and it was 5 a.m. I knew I needed to take a shower, so I got up anyway.

After a warm shower to relax, I stepped out and headed towards my closet. I settled for dark skinny jeans and a casual top with sneakers. Then I went back to my bathroom to dry my hair, and curl it slightly. I walked out satisfied and headed towards the kitchen.

I walked in to see my little brother watching Spongebob, and my mother trying to feed him. I guess Blake already headed to work at the hospital. "Morning," I said. They grumbled something back. I sighed as I heated some toast. Once it was ready, I ate it with some jam while checking my phone. It was time to go. I yelled a goodbye, grabbed my keys, and purse and went to my car.

School was a blur today. I was so excited for my "date" with Jeff that I didn't even hear Rachel talking to me.

"Leighanne..Anne?" she waved her hand towards my face.

"Oh, sorry, what were you saying again?" I said.

"We need to pick our songs for regionals. The theme for this one is songs with emotion. You think you can pick?" she asked. I thought about it for a second.

"Sure. I'll pick the order, who sings, and you pick the costumes. We will be set," I assured her, grabbing a pencil from the piano.

"Okay. Well, I'm headed to Lima Bean. Want anything?" she asked.

"Nope, I actually need to head home. I have a "date" tonight," I said, blushing slightly.

"Oooo, with Jeff? How are things working out?" she asked.

"He's really sweet. I think I like him. But I'm not sure how he feels," I say, resting my head in my hand.

"Don't worry about it! You never know how boys are feeling," she said, walking out with a smile.

I went straight home after school and headed towards my room. I checked the time, and it was 3:30. I decided to take a shower to relax myself so I wouldn't be a jumbled mess. I was grabbing my dress as I heard a knock at my door.

"Hey," it said. It was Blake.

"Hey," I said, looking up at him.

He sat on my bed and asked, "What's up tonight?" pointing at my dress.

"Ummm.. I'm going on a picnic. With a friend." I said bluntly.

"With Santana?" he asked.

"No. Jeff," I said, this time looking at him.

"Jeff? As in a guy?" he said, looking at me with an eyebrow.

"Yeah, why?" I asked, getting a little frustrated.

"I don't know. Maybe because last time you went out with someone, that didn't turn out very well for you," he said in a stern tone.

"Well, at least we had a steady long-lasting relationship while you seem to.." I muttered.

"Excuse me? You know Leighanne, I just wanted to come in here, and offer if you wanted to come to the movies with me and James, but instead of spending time with your family, just go off with some boy we don't even know about," he stated. "What are you going to do when the baby comes? Forget about us and just go on dates wasting your time?"

"You should be happy for me. Jeff is a really nice guy. So stop telling me otherwise," I start to raise my voice. "And, when the baby comes, I'm helping mom. What'd you think I was going to do?"

"Whatever," he said, walking out of my room.

I didn't even notice the tears falling down my face as he walked out. I can't believe he thought I wasn't going to help out my own mom. Sure we all fought with each other, but we are a family, and we all stick together. This family has been under a lot of stress lately, and I'm trying my hardest to get along with Blake. But the light bulb just isn't screwed on tightly enough yet.
