It didn't take us long to get to Dallas, we lived in Southeast Texas so only a few hours or so. We, of course, checked into a motel room for two nights. At the time, I did not know we had checked into the same motel room as the guys. I didn't find out until later that night. As I finished getting settled my dad threw himself on his bed.
"So, are you excited about tomorrow?" He asked me.
"You shouldn't even have to ask me that, of course I'm excited," I told him.
"Hey, you wanna go downstairs and get some dinner?" He asked, sitting up.
"Yeah, I could eat, just let me change," I said.
It didn't take me long to change but when I came out my father was curled up on his side and coughing up a lung.
"You - cough - have to - cough - go on - cough - without me," he coughed.
I knelt by his side and felt his forehead. It wasn't warm but I was still worried.
"Dad, are you okay?" I asked.
"I'm fine, just go down - cough - and get some dinner," he replied.
"I can stay here with you and order room service, make sure you're okay," I said softly.
"No, no, you go and socia - cough - eat! Go on and eat," he said rather quickly.
I narrowed my eyes at him, he was up to something but before I could say something else he gave me an irritated look. I sighed and left the room to go down to the hotel restaurant. It was nice and quaint, a place where you didn't have to dress up. There was a small stage at the front of the room with a microphone stand in front and speakers in the back. At the top, in red letters on a white banner, were the words: KARAOKE NIGHT. I smiled, tempted to sign myself up but then I remembered that had stage fright and shook my head.
I found a place to sit down at and ordered my self a coke and stared at the menu. A familiar voice came on the microphone and I couldn't help but look up. My mouth dropped open when I saw standing in front of the mic, getting ready to sing. I scanned the the small crowd and saw the other guys sitting at a table not too far from mine. I accidentally locked eyes with Sal and I quickly looked down at my menu, blushing. They were here. In the same hotel that we were. The Tenderloins.
