Elphaba and Fiyero were woken early the next morning by the obnoxious screech of a rooster. Fiyero groaned and went back to sleep, although Elphaba got up and began to comb over the Grimmerie, looking for a spell to fix Fiyero. By the time Dorothy snuck breakfast out to the barn for them and made Fiyero get up, Elphie had read the whole thing, cover to cover, twice. "Elphaba," Fiyero sighed. "I told you not to go to all this trouble." "This is nothing," Elphaba retorted. "I had to keep myself hidden for years from the Wizard and his guards. They were hunting me every second of my life, but I managed that. I can read a book and find one eensy spell to fix you." "I don't need fixing, Elphie," Fiyero replied. "I have you and that's plenty. In fact, that's more than I deserve. I wasn't really nice to you my first few days at Shiz and after that, I was never honest about my feelings." "That's all right," Elphaba reassured him. "I didn't exactly treat you with kindness either. And the whole lying about your feelings thing, been there, done that."

Fiyero gave her a sad smile. "You weren't mean to anyone and you know it." Elphaba grinned and said, "Loud? Yes. Obnoxious? Yes. Unusually peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe? You bet. But mean? Never. Never in my life, especially not when I was threatening the wizard." Fiyero chuckled. "He deserved it." "It doesn't matter!" Elphaba protested. "I still did it! And that is why we deserve each other" she sang. "As long as you're mine," Fiyero added. "You know what would be funny?" Elphaba said, laughing. "If saying nemhan akele muta muta nemhan nemhan akele turned you back into a man."

Suddenly, Fiyero began to tremble. "What did you do?" he asked, terrified. "I just said the spell I cast on you backward!" Elphaba cried out. "I never would have thought to try that. It's too simple!" "Apparently not!" Fiyero screamed, flinching. "Does it hurt?" Elphaba asked, taking a step toward him. "Stay back!" Fiyero ordered. Seeing the pain on her face, he added, "It might hurt you to touch me. My body feels like it's on fire right now, but it'll be worth it!" "I love you," Elphie whispered as Fiyero passed out. She ran forward and checked his pulse. Still beating. Good. He's alive, thank God, she thought. Wait- I feel flesh. She looked down. It worked. Fiyero was back to normal, wearing the same clothes he was when he saved her life.

"Fiyero?" she whispered softly. Fiyero moaned. "Fiyero, look. Look at yourself." "You did it," he marveled. "You actually did it! Oh, Elphie, I knew you could! Well, I hoped you could," he admitted. He wrapped his arms around her. "We have to go back to Oz!" Elphaba said almost at once. Fiyero moved his hands down to her elbows and gripped her forearms. "What?!? That is NOT happening. It's way to risky." "Fiyero, don't try to stop me," Elphaba told him. "I have to fix things. For Boq, for the monkeys, for everyone. I'm going with you or without you, though I'd prefer for you to come with me..." "Fine," Fiyero moaned, very reluctantly. "But only because I know you'll do something stupid if I let you go alone." Elphaba smiled. "True."

Fiyero laughed and wrapped his arms around you. Elphaba leaned against his beating heart, felt the warmth of his flesh, felt the strength of his muscles, the support of his bones. "Dorothy's in for a shock in the morning," Fiyero commented. Just thinking about it made Elphaba grin. "You should hide under your blankets and when she comes to wake you for breakfast, jump out and surprise her." Fiyero grinned mischievously. "That's a great idea. It'll be hilarious. The look on her face will be priceless!" he said, chuckling. Elphaba looked up at him, her eyes smiling, but her face deadly serious, and said, "I wonder if you're a better kisser than the scarecrow."

Fiyero pressed his mouth to hers. "Yup," Elphaba commented a few minutes later. "Much better." Fiyero smiled at her and asked, "What time are we going to Oz tomorrow. I mean, I still don't entirely agree with this plan, actually I think it's quite stupid, but if there's no talking you out of it, I'd like to know when it's happening." "As soon as we tell Dorothy," Elphaba told him. "As soon as we tell Dorothy," Fiyero agreed. With that being settled, the two said goodnight and went to sleep.

Dorothy came to wake up Fiyero and give the runaways breakfast, only to be surprised by Fiyero. Dorothy was so happy for him she cried. That morning was full of breakfast, laughter, and good times. Finally, Elphaba remembered that she a Fiyero have no time to lose and gave Dorothy a hurried explanation of her plan. "Be careful," Dorothy told her. "And know you're always welcome here." "Thank you," Elphaba replied, happy to have made a new friend. With that being said, Elphaba took Fiyero's hand and the two left Dorothy alone in the barn.

"I'm so proud of you," Fiyero said, kissing Elphaba's cheek. Elphaba smiled at him. "I had a lot of motivation, didn't I?" Fiyero scooped Elphaba into his arms, happy to finally be able to lift her. "You know, I don't miss those flimsy arms I had one bit," he commented. "They sure are useful when you're being suspended on poles and beaten for information on your witch girlfriend, but they're not very practical, are they." Elphaba laughed and put her arms around his neck. They began to walk through the countryside and the Green One, along with her newly remodeled boyfriend disappeared from view.
