Alice was completely taken back by the urgency of Kody's voice. Suddenly a loud, inhumane screeching noise filled the air. It didn't sound like anything either of them had ever heard before. Alice quickly grabbed her empty bag that was on the table and looked to Kody in panic. They both scurried behind the counter and looked at each other. Alice's face was filled with fright, her logical thoughts completely clouded by fear.
Kody looked at her reassuringly and grabbed her hand. He tugged her up and silently sprinted across the room and behind a wall near the back door. "We'll go out the back," he whispered softly into her ear, "then sneak down the street to my cafe. We don't know what that thing is or how many there are so we need to be careful and not make a noise, okay?" Alice nodded and, as they were about to make a run for the door, the sound of glass shattering echoed through the silence.
The creature had broken in through the window next to the front door and had crawled onto the wall, letting out another deafening screech. Alice felt her heart sink as the creature broke in, creeping around quickly, but still out of view. They stood there for a couple of minutes until they heard the creature jumping upstairs. "Let's go" Kody said, giving her no time to respond as he yanked her out the back door, sprinting down the street and then ducking behind a bush. "Did it see us?" Alice whispered gently, clinging to Kody's shoulder. "I don't fucking know" he retorted and then sighed and pulled her into a hug. "We're fine. We're fine.." He repeated, more reassuring himself than Alice as she clung to his shirt, hugging him tightly. The situation was setting in now, and Alice couldn't help but to let the tears start streaming down her face.
It was 1:40pm now, according to Kody's clock, and they had arrived at the cafe. Alice and Kody packed their bags with food, water, matches, knives and the first aid kit that was in a pantry in the storage room. "Where are we going to go? This is insane... This is fucking insane!" Alice was hysterical, pacing back and forth as Kody sat on a table, trying to figure out what there plan was going to be. "Alright, we'll wait here until night. Then, we'll get on the bikes and cycle to the city, hopefully we'll find someone who knows what's going on..."
