Chapter 4

I started my story from 5 years ago, where my memories began.

“I woke up in the streets of an unknown city one day. My head was throbbing so badly for reasons I didn’t know, as well as my stomach due to hunger. I was walking barefoot with only a simple shirt and denim shorts to keep my body warm. It was of no use though in battling against the chills of an autumn night. I was about to collapse in an alley for I can feel the frailty of my body at that time. Just when all hope was lost, Grams found me. She saved me. Maybe that’s where I got the urge to save people too. She said she was visiting an old friend in that city when she saw me. She took me to the hospital and the doctors said that due to severe head trauma, I lost my memories. I cried myself that night wondering if I have a family, who am I and what happened to me. The loss for answers to my questions tormented me.” , I sighed.

“You’re doing a good job, Ash.”, Vanessa comforted me while Shiela gave me a sympathetic smile.

“After that, Grams pretty much became my family. She clothed me, fed me, provided shelter and protection for me. She home-schooled me for 5 years. She used to be a teacher by the way. Now, I’m trying to earn for college.”

“Did you know how old you were when Grams found you?”, Shiela asked.

“Yes. I was 12 years old. I only found out because of the card that was inserted in my pocket. It says ‘Happy 12th Birthday Ashley! –Angel’”

“You told me you had karate classes when you were a kid, how did you know that?”, Vanessa asked.

“Actually, I just assumed that since it’s weird that I know how to kick ass without anyone teaching me so I assumed that I took some classes before.”, I smiled.

“Tell me about yourself. How do you describe yourself? What do you think about your personality?”, Shiela asked.

“Hmm… I prefer to act tough since I had to be strong for Grams and I. Although I act like my past doesn’t affect me much, truth is, I’m very intrigued by it. And, I’m not sure if it’s true but everyone says I’m a man-hater. If I am one, I don’t know why I despise them. I also secretly love girly clothes though I think it’s not practical to spend so much on them.”, I smiled shyly at my confession.

“Interesting personality. What about your lovelife? Have you ever had a boyfriend?”

“Never had one. I don’t see the necessity.”, I replied frankly.

“How about the name Beach Police? Was there a specific event on how you got stuck with that name?”

I laughed. “I’m not sure myself too. I think Carl my friend cop started it. He said it was because I was able to capture a psychopath who threatened to kill his family and 2 supermarket snatchers in my first week here. I pretty much worked as a cop.”

“Impressive! So, is this island not very safe?”, Shiela asked hesitantly.

“Before it was, but since the island started getting attention from tourists, the security tightened though I think thieves became more interested with the increasing number of tourists too since there are more people for them to steal from.”, I replied sadly.

“If that is all then I’m resting for now. I'm still tired from the travel.” Shiela excused herself since she feels exhausted.

“I think I’ll rest too since all that conversation drained me.”, I told Vanessa.

Vanessa, Shiela and I hung out for the whole week. We got to know each other until Sunday came and Vanessa and Shiela had to go back to New York to work on the upcoming movie about my life. They said there will be additions in my story to create an interesting plotline.

For two months, I haven’t heard from any of the two of them.  They must be quite busy preparing for the movie.

I was walking by the beach near the deck. The sun was about to set so I started heading back home. It’s a good thing that I accepted Vanessa’s offer, now the cabin is renovated. We were even able to pay the bank our debt. I shouldn’t tell Grams that the money was not enough to pay everything that’s why I had to use my college fund too. She must not find out or else she will get really mad! I sighed.

I should really thank Vanessa and Shiela. I thought to myself.

Ashhh! Ashhh!

Speaking of them, do I really miss them this much? Why do I hear Vanessa’s voice?

I turned my head and saw her waving her hand frantically, trying to get my attention. I waved back and jogged towards her. There are a lot of people with her and with heavy equipments.

“Vanessa, how are you? Who are these people?”, I asked.

“They’re the crew for the movie. We’ll be staying in your inn. How many is the capacity of your inn?”

“It can fit 50 people since there are no customers checked in right now.”

“Perfect! The crew can stay there. I’ll just have the actors and actresses stay at a nearby hotel.”

“Where’s Shiela?”

“Right here!” Shiela shouted. “Hey you, be careful with the equipments, okay?”, she ordered one of the staffs.

“Okay guys, follow me.” I lead them to the cabin. Grams was very happy that the cabin is packed with customers and I informed her that they are here for the movie and will be staying for months.

That night was the busiest night in our cabin. Grams and I had to prepare dinner for 50 people and I woke up the next morning with full of energy. I went to the supermarket to stack our supplies to prepare for the upcoming months.
