"For all children grow up... Except one," I finished reciting the greatest story of all time, Peter Pan, to my younger sister, Angela Jane Michaela.
I had heard that line many, many times. It just so happened that my great great great grandmother was Wendy Moira Angela Darling, the first one to be taken to Neverland. She told the story to her children, who told their children, and they told it to theirs. This continued until it ended up with me.
I had been so very terribly fascinated by the thoughts and ideas. And so, I took it upon myself to carry out the story to my children when I grew up, and even share it with my classmates, though not many people would hear of such thing. They thought it silly for there to be fairies and mermaids and flying boys. In fact, the only two friends I had ever had had stopped being my friends for that very reason. So maybe that's not friendship, but it was the closest I'd ever come, and it was a long time ago. That's why I tell it to my sister.
Losing a couple friends couldn't deter me from believing in the fantasy. I just knew this story had to be true. Something made me believe that it really did happen, and that Peter was still out there.
I wished to be just like Grandmother Wendy, but I knew it could never really happen. Little did I know that we were more similar than I thought. I just wasn't aware that I was to live out my very own fairy tale.
