Snowflakes were falling from the pitch black sky, covering everything in a thin layer of white. The howling wind pierced against the exposed skin on my face, I pulled the collar of my coat closer to me. Although I was in the city, everything around was strangely quiet. The harsh whistle of the wind topped all other noises.
I stared at the figure kneeling in front of me. "P-p-please don't kill me," It whispered as if itself didn't believe its words. "I promise I'll never hurt another human. Let me go, I-I-I'll give you money, lots!" Begging on its knees, its eyes flashed in an offending shade of red.
Tightly gripping the creature by its collar, I pressed the silver dagger against its neck. "It's impossible to quit once you've drank it. Money?" I snorted, "pathetic..."
Hearing my words, it started to struggle against my grip, trying to pry free. The hideous creature shot me the look full of fear and hatred. "You'll regret this..." It tried to shout, but what came out was similar to a wheeze. "I'll rip you into pieces!" It hissed, trying to get up. Its nails dug into my hands making angry red marks on my pale skin.
Slightly annoyed by its troublesome spirit, I slashed at its neck. Warm, dark liquid gushed from the wound I inflicted, trickling onto my hands. I immediately dropped the corpse with clear disgust on my face. The body was still bleeding and slightly twitching. After a few seconds, it went limp.
Spearing the last glance at the blood stained ground where the creature lay, I wiped my dagger clean on its cotton jacket. This mission was a whole lot simpler than I predicted. Vampires were never the hardest to slay, especially a lowly mixed blood I just killed. To vampires, human blood was like a drug, addictive and dangerous. Once they try it, quitting is nearly impossible. Curiosity killed the cat. If this poor creature didn't break the law, it would not have been killed.
I walked down the sidewalk. The bright crescent shaped moon was peeking behind the clouds in the sky, following my every step. The light flurry had stopped, the night was clear. It didn't take long for me to get back to my hideout. Stopping in front of a small sketchy apartment on the corner of the street, I looked around to make sure no one followed as I stepped in.
Unlocking the door to my unit, I walked in and found my inspector sitting on the couch, watching TV.
"Back already?" He greeted me without looking away from the flashing screen. "You are quick," he commented.
"Are you kidding me? I'd be mentally disabled if I can't even take down a mixed blood," I said with a 'duh' expression.
"Definitely," he replied and shut the television off before turning to me. My inspected was code named Dee on a mission in America to hunt down a drug lord a few fears ago. Everyone thought that code name suited him, so they still called him Dee. Being an experienced Hunter, he was assigned the inspector rank, in charge of several other Hunting units nearby. He looked to be in his mid twenties, with well defined features and conceiving eyes that looked serious for one second, and teasing for another. Overall, he was a handsome guy and a dependable boss to work with.
"Now that you came back safely, I have a new mission for you."
"Nothing I can't handle."
Dee nodded, acknowledging my spirit. "I believe you. Anyways, here's your new mission." He took out a city map and spread it out on the table. "More than 40 victims has been found dead in this area for the past two years." Dee gestured to the location on the map.
"Two years, why didn't the Organization do anything about it?" I questioned and furrowed up my eyebrows.
Dee shook his head in response, "they did. They've sent 4 Hunters and 1 Elite Hunter before. The first couple Hunters were found dead on the streets and alleyways. The last Hunter, who was ranked Elite, came back in an unimaginable state. He had limbs missing, almost every single bone broken and was mentally disabled."
