It was still dark outside, the wind howled against the window of the quiet lonely house. It's 6:00 right now, time for... school?
I quickly sat up from the bed. My brain automatically started processing through the plan of the day. I know this was kind of weird, but since I had been spying, stalking and hunting paranormal creatures for my entire life, preparing for the day had became a natural part of my life. I'm suppose to arrive to school at 8:00 am, that leaves me with 2 hours getting ready. Showering should take 15 minutes, then...
After I finished consuming my breakfast and packed up all of my things. It was 7:30 am. Perfect, if it was 7:30, then I had 30 minutes to get to school, incase I forget something, I would still have enough time to come back and get it...
I put on a oversized grey hoodie that went down to my thighs, over the messed up T-shirt Dee packed for me. I checked one more time to make sure I had everything packed before heading out. School sounded very interesting to me. Even though I was pretty much skilled at everything, I had absolutely no prior knowledge of experiences of going to school. I'll just consider this a new learning opportunity then.
Walking down the street of a winter morning, I listened to the birds chirp on the trees and inhaled a deep breath. The chilly morning air woke my brains up and fueled up my body. Suddenly, I sensed a hungry and dangerous force behind me. My body tensed up, my left hand automatically found its way to my silver dagger hidden in a secret pocket in my jacket.
Slowly turning around, I saw nothing unusual in my surroundings. There was a bakery shop on the other side of the road, a trail leading to the park next to the sidewalk and an old grandpa dude taking a stroll. I was pretty sure I sensed something though. There had to be something hiding around here. My senses were usually correct. I had one of the best sensing ability in the Organization.
I turned my head around to double check. The grandpa dude smiled at me. I quickly turned back, not used to the friendliness he gave me. But something was not right... I paused my steps when I realized what was wrong, the smile. The smile he gave me didn't show friendliness. Instead, it revealed lust, like a hungry beast who just found his next meal.
I looked back again. This time, the old man seemed to be closer than last time. He wasn't strolling anymore, he was stumbling forward, dragging his walking stick stick behind him. His other arm was held up in front of him, clawing at the air like it was trying to grasp something.
This situation was anything but normal. That old man clearly wasn't human. Could it possibly be IT?
First of all, it was unable to move fast, it seemed as if it was dragging itself around. Secondly, one of its arms was stuck out in front of its body while the other one was hanging on to the walking stick. Thirdly, it had a wrinkled yellowish pale face. Its eye balls seemed as it they were popping out in contrast of his bony face. Lastly, it looked like it was interested, at me.
I couldn't believe it, it was normal zombie. Wow, a zombie. Seriously, I had my hopes up. Fine, I'll make this quick.
I took out my dagger and broke into a sprint. Running toward it at a lightning speed. I but through the zombie's head with one clean strike before it had a chance to react. I watched as its head slowly slid down its neck. Unable to hold the head in place, the rotting skin ripped, and the head dropped on the ground.
That was easy, now I have to get to... school! I completely forgot about my important destination. Looking around to make sure there was no witness. I put away my dagger and straightened my jacket. My hands stopped when I felt wet fabric. Looking down at my jacket, I found myself staring at an apple sized patch of zombie blood. How do I explain about a patch of blood without being questioned or suspected? Sighing, I ignored it and continued walking like nothing had happened.
I stopped in front of the school gate as I looked down at my watch, It was 7:57 am, just on time for school and my registration. I walked through the school yard. There were lots of students in crowds, talking and laughing. When I arrived at the main building, I walked in, ignoring the stares given by other students.
I looked down at the patch of blood on my jacket. It was really starting to smell. Zombie blood had a strong decaying smell mixed with a fishy scent. I glanced around in worry. At this stage, even normal humans could tell that this was blood.
Sighing, I took the dagger out of my jacket before taking off the stained clothes and throwing it into the trash can. I suddenly felt a little sad that my jacket just went into waste. There goes my only piece of winter clothing... Well I can always ask to buy more.
I held the knife awkwardly in my hand, hiding it from the view of other students. Where should I store my dagger? It would be very hard to access it if I put it in my backpack, but what other choice did I have? Maybe I can... I looked down to my chest. No way, I'll just keep it in my bag.
While trying to find my way to the office, I could still smell the zombie blood lingering around me. It was suddenly a relief for me that normal humans couldn't smell that well. If there were some paranormal creatures here, they would definitely detect the smell of blood... On the other hand, I could just slay it before it gets a chance to act.
So, back to what I was doing. Right, looking for the office. Why was high school so damn big? Walking down the hallway, I was beginning to get bothered by the scent of blood. It seemed especially strong around me. I was afraid that humans might be able to smell it. I had to think of a way to cover the remaining smell.
On the side of the hall, there were people selling school spirit wears. I decided to buy one to change into since the zombie stench had thoroughly invaded my sweater. I approached the table selling spirit wear and studied the clothes they had. "I'll take a sweater," I said to the selling girl.
She beamed a bright smile at me, "what size would you like?"
"Ummmm, I'll take a large," I replied, reaching for my wallet in my backpack.
"Are you sure, extra large? I think you're a small size."
I stopped and considered it for a moment before continuing my previous decision. "Large." I said.
The girl raised her eyebrows, "Okay then, that will be 25 dollars."
I gave her twenty five dollars and took the sweater from her hands. As fast as possible, I removed my current sweater, ripped the package off, took out the sweater and slid in. I feel much more comfortable when the smell of blood fainted to the point where I couldn't even smell it anymore.
Arriving at the office, I looked around in confusion before heading to one of the many working staff there. I greeted a friendly looking lady, "excuse me, my name's..." I trailed off. What's my name? I just realized that Dee didn't tell me my name. In the organization, we were given code numbers instead of proper names, my number was 14. The problem was, what was my name? The last time I went undercover, my name was Cassandra, but what about this time?
The secretary was looking at me with an impatient expression. I cleared my throat and tried again, "hi, I'm transferring to this school today... and um, yeah."
"Okay, you're new... she checked something on her computer and asked, "are you Abi? It says that you will be transferring to this school today."
Am I Abi? So my name is Abi this time... "Yes, my name is Abi," I replied carefully.
"Nice to meet you Abi, welcome to this school. My name is Mrs. Zhang, one of the office secretaries," she stood up and held out a hand for me to shake, I took it. "Your father came and registered you yesterday right?"
"Yeah, my father did..." I went along with the flow, but I didn't even know my dad's identity...
"Okay, great! It says here that you will be in Ms. Lee's second year class. I will call someone to get you immediately," she said pleasantly and turned away to dial on the phone. After she was done, she turned to me, "you can take a seat and wait for the student to come and get you, Abi."
