Sitting on the plump arm chair in the corner of the office, I looked around as I waited for the people to come and pick me up. The office was large, with see through glass walls and two entrances. There were several long wooden counters with staff sitting behind it, busy looking at the computer or reading paper documents. Looking past the counters, I could see another walkway leading to many more rooms which I assume were the offices of important characters. I quickly made a mental blueprint of this place and carved it into my brain just incase I get involved in combat. There were many students walking in and out of the main hallway.
I was familiar with Mafia, crack houses, and even the military, but school was totally new for me. Today was my first mission working undercover at a high school, I was both nervous and excited. Interacting with humans and make friends had always been part of my goals. But I doubt that I could accomplish this goal under a fake identity.
As I gazed around in awe, two males walked in. I didn't turn to face them but observed them from my peripheral view. It had been a hunting rule, never startle your prey, observe them from the shadows. "We are here, Ms.Zhang," one of the male said loudly.
The secretary looked up and shook her head in displease, "keep it down, Chanyeol, this is a school."
The other boy suddenly turned to look at me. I looked back and held his gaze, showing no sign of weakness. His pupils changed as I stared into them. Breaking the intense eye contact, he turned away to Mrs. Zhang, "is this her?"
The lady nodded, "please show Abi around the school and make her feel welcomed."
"No problem!" The male named Chanyeol yelled.
"Keep quiet and get going, you shouldn't miss class," Mrs. Zhang hissed and glared at him.
The other male walked closer to me with a friendly smile on his face. He had very beautiful features, but what caught my attention the most was the perfectly symmetrical dimples on either side of his cheeks. After the two males led me out of the office, they let out a long sigh.
"Phew, I thought I was going to die back there, trust me, you don't want to get on Mrs. Zhang's bad side," said the male called Chaneyol. "My name is Chayeol," he introduced before pointing to his friend, "and this is Lay. Nice to meet you, Abi?" Lay nodded and smiled at me, showing off his cute dimples.
"Yep, my name is Abi, nice to meet you too, Lay and Chanyeol," I smiled back.
"So... what family are you from?" Lay suddenly asked.
My body tensed and my defense shot up. "Why do you want to know?" I replied put a bold act on. My heart was pounding against my chest. I prayed silently that my identity is still safe.
"Oh," Chanyeol said after a pause, "Ms.Zhang called the two of us to show you around. But when it's just a normal student transferring, she would get normal students to do the job. Only when it's some rich or famous students, she would get us."
What should I say? I couldn't tell them anything because I didn't even know myself. I felt sweat forming in the palm of my hands as I tried to think of a response. Being a young Hunter who still lacked social experience, I couldn't think of a good thing to say. "It's none of your business."
"It's no problem if you don't feel safe telling us. Everyone has their own secret, right?" Lay said and looked at me with a peculiar expression. I kept quiet. Lay sniffed the air.
The two boys showed me all around the school, from the library (learning commence), to all the 3 different gymnasiums in the school. I tried my best to memorize all the different routes of the school and the different rooms. We had a swim pool connected to the Athletic hall, and an ice rink in a separate building. After more than an hour of touring around, I was getting a little bored. "Um, don't we have to go to class? If I remember correctly, we already went around the school 3 times."
"Nah, lets hang around until lunch break, who would want to go to the boring class once we are given the chance to wander around, right dude?" Chanyeol turned and asked Lay.
"Sure..." Lay replied, looking around suspiciously. I had studied him for quite a while now, something about this dimpled boy wasn't right.
"I have to go to the washroom," Chanyeol announced out of the blue and marched away. Leaving me alone with Lay in the empty hallway.
I turned to the dimpled boy and tried to start a conversation, "are you good friends with Chanyeol?" I asked.
Lay didn't answer me, he studied me for a moment and slowly moved closer. I backed off a little and hoped he would stop the strange act. But he kept moving closer, and I was forced to back off more. "What?" I asked and tried to keep my cool. Suddenly, I felt my back coming to contact with the cold wall. Unable to back up anymore, I helplessly stood there, trying to make up an escape plan. Why did my weapon go away in this situation?
Lay brought his hands to the wall on both side of my head and caged me in. "What do you want?" I asked again, once again regretting the decision of leaving my dagger inside my backpack.
"I want you to answer me one question," Lay whispered.
"Yes?" I replied and forced myself to calm down, and it worked. Surprisingly, all of my fears went away as I felt my Hunter powers taking over my mind.
"Are you okay?" The boy asked and looked deep into my eyes. I felt naked and exposed under his intense gaze.
"Yes. I'm okay," I said, sounding as calm as possible.
"Are you sure? Not hurt anywhere? Not BLEEDING?" He asked again, and the tone of his voice became more threatening.
"Yes, I'm sure," I stated. Does he know I have zombie blood on my old hoodie? But there is no way he can smell it, I've changed into a brand new sweater. Not even my Hunter senses can detect it anymore.
"Are you positive?" Lay questioned again, as if he was sure I was hiding something. I nodded.
"Then you wouldn't mind if I check, right?" He said, holding my gaze. Slowly, he brought his face to my neck, I could feel his hot breath tickling my skin, sending jolts down my body. He sniffed. Then, he moved to my tummy area, and sniffed again. When he looked up at me, confusion filled his face. "You're not okay," he said and backed away a little, "I smell blood on you. But the blood doesn't belong to you" He looked at me from head to toe, "who are you?"
It couldn't have been possible, no humans had a sense of smell this sharp. Unless he wasn't human. Right now, it didn't matter what he was, I needed to get out this situation, fast. "Wow, you've got a great sense of smell, Lay. You see, on my way here, there was a cat lying on the sidewalk, it was seriously hurt. I Took it to its owner and some of its blood probably smudged on my sweater," I lied.
Lay shrugged, "whatever."
Before things began to get awkward, the other boy came back. "Hey guys," Chanyeol came out of the washroom, waving.
"Hey," I greeted.
"Let's go guys, It's almost lunch time. Let's head to the cafeteria. To test if you can remember the way, why don't you lead us?" Chanyeol grinned at me.
I nodded and smiled back, "a piece of cake. I'm smarter than you think." Before I turned around, I caught Lay looking at me with a peculiar expression. My headed started hurting. For some reason, I didn't think Lay believed my story. That boy wasn't normal. Might he be IT?
