"You-you had a boyfriend?" I ask.
"Had." Phil says, tears brimming his eyes. "He-he hurt me."
My heart breaks when I hear those words. How could someone do that to him? How could Luke do that to someone as sweet and innocent as Phil?
"Phil." I wrap my arms around him. "I'm so sorry."
Now I can understand why Phil had a panic attack when he saw his ex at the park.
Chris says, "Guys, we have to tell the cops. We can't let Luke get away with this. Honestly he should have been arrested after he-"
"No, no. They'll arrest me because they think I caused the fire." I feel the panic rising in my chest again, and clutch Phil tighter.
"Dan there has to be a a way to prove you're innocent." Louise says.
I shake my head. "I don't wanna talk about it."
"But-"
"I don't!" I exclaim.
Tense silence settles over us.
"Guys, this is putting too much stress on all of us. We need to do something to calm us all down. Then, we should get this mess taken care of." Chris says.
"I say that we need to get away from all of this, at least for a little while." Pj says.
"Agreed." Chris says.
"How? Luke will find us. He always does. He could even be watching us right now." Phil shudders. With that, Chris goes around the room and closes all the curtains.
"Even if this works out, where would we go?" I ask.
"I don't know. But I do know that you guys need to be safe. We all do."
Louise nods in agreement. "I say we get out of London. Maybe go up north."
"My parents have a cottage in Castle Combe. We could go there." Chris suggests.
"How far away is it?" I ask.
"About 100 miles west of here. I think that's far enough," he answers.
We sit in silence for a minute.
"Guys, I have a plan." Pj announces.
"So, we all tell our parents that we're going on a road trip with friends to, I don't know, Brighton. We're going to be out for about a week, I reckon."
Louise says, "What about where we're staying? Chris' parents might not-"
"It's a done deal," Chris says, looking up from his phone. "My dad doesn't care. He has the keys to the cottage in his home office."
Louise nods, impressed.
"If we're careful, no one will know where we are." Pj continues. "We need to make sure that there's no way Luke can find us."
"I think our parents won't care that we're gone. After all, it's summer. They probably want us out of their hair for a while," Chris says.
"I'd need to call my work and take some vacation time off. Other than that, I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind me being away for a bit," Louise says.
"How soon can we leave?" I ask. "I'd like to be out of here as soon as possible."
"If all of our parents are okay with it, hopefully tomorrow." Pj says. "I'll check right now."
After a few phone calls, everyone has consent to go.
"So it's settled, then. Get your things packed. We leave tomorrow!" Chris announces.
I nudge Phil, who hasn't spoke a word. "Are you okay with this?"
He looks up at me.
"Are you?"
I nod. "Yeah. But it shouldn't matter if I'm okay with it or not. You need to be safe from him."
Phil shakes his head.
"No, you need to be safe. Luke already hurt me. I don't want you, or anyone else to ever experience what he did to me. If he hurt you, I don't know if I'd ever forgive myself. It's my fault that we're in this mess. And I-"
He begins to sob into my chest.
"I care about you so much."
I rock him back and forth and kiss his forehead.
"No. Don't think like that. It's not your fault. You have to be stronger than him. We'll get through this."
"Together?" He asks, looking at me with those beautiful blue eyes.
"Together."

A/N:
So sorry for the short chapter and the time it took to write it. I've been having issues lately.(by issues I mean procrastination and writers block)
But if you look up pictures of Castle Combe, England, you can see how beautiful the village is(it looks so pretty in winter!!). I've been planning to have the group go somewhere on a road trip for a while now, so I was really happy when I found the village. I feel it's such a great spot to get away for a bit and to relax. While they're away, look forward to major fluff. So much fluff.
Back to the actual story...
But stuff is getting INTENSE. Like, the entire jealous ex concept is sort of cliche, but I enjoyed writing it. You'll find out what Luke did to Phil in later chapters. And Dan is dealing with the confusion with the gas station fire that he's being falsely accused of. Wow.
Also, thank you for all the great comments that you guys have left. It's really helped me out with confidence and motivated me to keep writing. You guys are the best!
As always, please vote for my story and leave a comment if you liked this chapter!
