Louise offers to drive Phil and Pj home to pack, and they're waiting in the car.
Phil and I are standing on the porch.
"You'll be okay with me being gone for a bit, right?" Phil asks.
I nod.
"You could come with me, if you want." He suggests.
"You need to pack, and make sure you have everything. I'll be fine," I promise.
Phil smiles, and wraps his arms around me.
"I know. I just want you to be okay."
I hug him back and stand on my tiptoes to kiss him.
Bleep!
We break away from each other and see Pj and Louise giggling in the car.
"Come on, Phil! We need to get going, you can see your lover later!" Pj shouts out the window.
I blush and look up at Phil, whose face is the color of a fire engine. I giggle and pull him in for a tight embrace, flipping off Pj in the process.
"Don't worry about me," I say.
Our lips meet again before Phil steps off the porch and into the car.
I watch them drive down the road, and go back into the house once they disappear from view.
~
Later that night, Phil, Pj, and Louise return with their bags packed. But, I notice, Phil has two suitcases. When everyone goes to their respective rooms to sleep, Phil brings me into the living room. He sits me down on the floor. "Close your eyes," he instructs.
I chuckle and do as he says. "What have you got planned?"
"Open your eyes and find out."
I do, and find an open suitcase in front of me, packed with clothes.
Phil settles down beside me.
"This is all yours," he says. "I figured that we have the same size clothes, so I'm giving you some stuff that I don't really wear. All of this is yours to keep."
All of this... for me?
I stare in awe, and start to tear up.
"Dan? Dan, what's wrong?" Phil asks.
"There's nothing wrong. It's just- this is the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me," I sniffle.
With sympathy in his eyes, Phil brings me closer to him.
"This is the nicest thing anyone's done for you?" He asks quietly.
I nod, tears spilling down my face.
"Aw, Dan, don't cry. It's okay," Phil says, wrapping his arms around me.
I press my face against his chest and grip his shirt in my hands.
"Thank you so much," I whisper through my tears.
"No problem, Dan." Phil replies quietly. He rests his chin on top of my head and rocks us back and forth.
We stay like this until I stop crying. Once I lift my head from Phil's shirt I run my hands through his hair and connect our lips in a gentle but passionate kiss.
"You're the most wonderful person in the world," I declare once we come up for air.
"It's funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you," Phil breathes before pressing his lips to mine again.
I smile into the kiss.
How did I find someone so wonderful?
~
"Goodbye, London!" Louise cheers as we zoom down the highway.
Chris drives the minivan, with Pj in the passenger seat, Louise in the middle, and Phil and I in the backseat.
The gray of industrial cities give way to the green of lush woods. As we travel further west the urban areas seem to fade away, leaving small rural towns dotting the countryside.
After making a pit stop to a grocery store, we arrive in Castle Combe around four. As we drive along the main road, I observe that the entire village looks like something out of a fairytale. The quaint cottages have flowers growing up and around them, and a forest surrounds the village. The ancient church in the middle of the village stands out the most, with its gothic archways and massive windows.
We turn off the main road into a small driveway lined with trees. At the end of the driveway is a cottage nestled between two oak trees. The car slows to a halt, and we step out of it. I look over the cottage. Its huge, with two stories and lots of floor space. The cottage is made of brown stone with many windows and a steep roof. One side of the place is completely covered in green, as vines are growing over the exterior.
"We've arrived at our destination!" Chris announces, throwing his hands up in the air.
"Its so pretty!" Louise gushes.
"I like the fact we're just a stones throw away from the village," Pj comments.
"We'll definitely explore later," Phil adds.
"Well, before we do all of that, we need to unpack." Chris says.
Suitcases are pulled out of the van, and we make our way to the front door.
"By the way, you all will have your own key to the place." Chris says as he unlocks the door.
We step inside.
Wow.
The inside is more beautiful than the outside. Oak wooden floors lead into a massive living room, complete with a fireplace and plenty of sitting space. Floor to ceiling windows look out into the backyard patio, and a flatscreen tv sits on the wall.
The kitchen and dining room sit to the right, and stairs lead to the second floor.
"This is a great place you got here, Chris." Louise says.
"It's my home away from home," he replies, leading us all into the living room.
"So there's three bedrooms, so some people will have to share..." Chris says knowingly.
"I call having a room to myself!" Louise exclaims.
"Chris and I are sharing." Pj states.
Realizing the obvious, I turn to Phil.
"So, I guess we're sharing?" I ask, blushing.
"If you're not comfortable with it I can crash on the couch," he says.
"No.... I'm actually okay with it." I blush harder and look at the floor.
"Ooooooooh!" Chris sings.
"Oh, stop it, Chris!" Louise hits him lightly on the shoulder.
"I was just joking," he mumbles.
It's silent for a moment before Pj says,
"We should probably unpack."
It's silent for another moment, then everyone makes a mad dash for the upstairs; hoping to claim the best room.
"Run like the wind, Chris!" Pj yells as we all scramble to get up the steps.
Phil trips, bringing me down with him.
We tumble down a couple of stairs before landing at the bottom.
"Wow. That just happened." I say before bursting into laughter.
Phil laughs too. "I'm literally the clumsiest person in the world."
"Are you okay? Did you get hurt?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "No. You're good?"
"Yeah."
"All upstairs bedrooms are taken!" I hear Louise shout.
I look at Phil. "There's a room down here?"
He shrugs. "Apparently."
"The master bed is to the right of the living room!" Chris yells down the stairs.
"Master bedroom?" I raise my eyebrows. "Let's check it out."
We gather our suitcases(which lay abandoned in the living room) and head to the door.
Phil opens it and we're greeted with a beautiful spacious bedroom. White walls and furniture contrast the dark floors. Double doors lead out to the patio, and a window seat lies to the left of the bed, which is in the center of the room.
"Oh wow." I walk over and sit on the bed. It has a soft, fake fur blanket covering it and lots of pillows.
"This is so nice," I comment.
"We should unpack," Phil says. "We can share this dresser."
"Alright."
Chris comes into the room as we finish unpacking.
"Here's your set of house keys." He says, throwing them onto the bed. "Please don't loose them, Phil."
"Hey!" Phil begins, but Chris has already left the room.
I giggle and pick up the keys.
"I'll keep these, I guess."
"I'm glad we're here," Phil speaks up. "I'm glad that Chris has a place here, so we can get away for awhile."
I pat next to me on the bed. "Come here."
He settles beside me, and I take his hands in my own.
"I'm glad we're here too." I move closer to him.
"Especially since you're here, too." My voice cracks a bit.
Phil pulls me in for a tight hug. "It's okay. We'll get through this."
We stay in each other's arms, in silence except for each other's heartbeat.
~
"Dinner is served!" Louise calls from the kitchen.
I reluctantly untangle my arms from Phil.
"We should eat." I say.
We make our way to the dining room, where a heavenly scent of fish and chips are waiting for us.
"Eat up, boys. We've had a long day." Louise sighs.
This is the first proper meal I've had in a long time, I think to myself as I take a seat.
"This is delicious, Louise." Pj comments.
"I try my best," she replies.
"How do you two like the master bedroom?" Louise asks us. "If I'd have known it was down here I would've shot gunned it."
"It's really nice. Thanks for letting us use it, Chris." Phil says.
Pj raises his glass.
"I toast to Chris, for generously offering this place to stay."
We all raise our glasses, and say, "To Chris!"
"Thanks guys," Chris says,
Everyone eats quickly except for me. I savor every bite, the warmth of the food is an long-forgotten feeling. It's been so long since I've sat down at a table and eaten off of a plate, and this entire meal feels like a rare occasion.
Eventually everyone leaves the table to empty their plate except for Phil and I.
"Jeez, Dan needs to stop eating so fast," Chris snickers.
"Shut up, Chris," I say jokingly.
"Anyway, we're going out to explore the town. Do you guys want to come?" Pj asks.
"Going out this late?" Phil asks.
"The village is really pretty at night," Chris says.
Phil looks over at me. "It's up to Dan."
"Um, I kinda want to stay..." I mumble.
"Are you sure you'll be okay by yourselves?" Louise asks.
Phil and I nod.
"Alright. If you need anything, call me, Phil." Chris says.
They file out the front door and close it with a thud.
"You almost done eating?" Phil asks, looking at my almost empty plate.
"Yeah," I reply. I stand up and go into the kitchen, dropping my plate into the sink.
We walk into the living room.
"What do you want to do?" Phil asks.
"I don't really know," I admit. "I just wanted to spend some time with you."
"Well we could watch a movie," Phil suggests. "Chris has loads." He nods to the bookshelf in the corner filled with DVDs.
I shake my head.
"We can cuddle if you want." He offers.
"Didn't we just do that?" I chuckle.
"There's no such thing as too much cuddling." Phil pouts. "Especially with you."
My cheeks turn crimson and I look down at the floor.
"Ooh, I have the perfect idea!" Phil exclaims.
"We should dance."
"Dance? Like slow dance?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"I-I don't know how," I admit.
"Come on, it's not that hard. I'll teach you." Phil offers his hand.
"I don't know..."
I really don't want to embarrass myself in front of him.
"It's okay. I'm the clumsiest person ever but I'm okay at slow dancing. I mean, I don't trip over my own two feet." This earns a giggle out of me, and I take his hand.
He leads me to the center of the living room.
"So you put your left hand in my right." Phil instructs. "And my left hand goes on your waist, and your right hand goes on my shoulder."
I do as he says.
"Okay, so this is how you stay for the majority of the time you dance. Except for twirling. So for the actual dancing part you just sort of sway together and move in a circle."
"Seems easy enough," I remark.
"Trust me, it is."
"What will we dance to?" I ask.
"I have an idea in mind," Phil says.
He takes out his phone and presses play.
A familiar melody comes from the speakers.
"Of course you picked this song," I laugh.
"Less talking, more dancing."
We take each other's hands.
"When your legs don't work like you used to before
And I can't sweep you off of your feet"
He puts his hand on my waist, and I rest my hand on his shoulder.
"Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?"
We sway together slowly.
"And darling I will be loving you 'til we're 70
And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23"
Phil moves us in a tiny circle.
"I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand"
I look into his beautiful blue eyes, and he stares back.
"Oh me I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am"
He closes his eyes and smiles, touching our noses together.
"So honey now
take me into your loving arms"
I put both hands on his shoulders and Phil puts both of his hands on my waist.
"Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars"
Phil rocks us gently, and I move closer to him.
"Place your hand through my beating heart"
I move my head so it's resting on his chest.
"I'm thinking out loud"
His hand cups my cheek and he brings his lips to mine. I close my eyes and smile into the kiss.
"Maybe we found love right where we are."A/N
I love dying and being dead.
No seriously, I have to say I made a couple of inhuman noises while writing this. Fluff just gets to me, you feel?
But yeah, no angst for a change! It'll stay fluffy for the next chapter or so.
LETS TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS.
So they're in Castle Combe, England on a holiday(sort of). Really, they just need to get out of London for awhile, and leave all the drama behind for a bit.
Phil did something SO SWEET OH MY GOD and got Dan a suitcase full of clothes. This is a really emotional part of the chapter because Dan isn't used to someone doing something that nice for him. Fluff ensues, everyone is happy.
Then, after arriving in the village, they comfort each other in the bedroom(no, not like that) when they think about what they'll be facing once they get back to London.
AND FINALLY, they dance. THEY DANCE.
So I had been planning to have Dan and Phil slow dance for awhile now, but I didn't know what song to have them dance to. Then my wonderful friend Mikayluh suggested "Thinking Out Loud" and it fit perfectly.
It makes a lot of connections to the story so far(kiss me under the light of a thousand stars, exc.) so shout out to her for suggesting the song!
Please leave a comment if you died while reading this chapter(not really) or if you liked the chapter!
ALSO HAPPY PHANNIVERSARY
(It's been 6 years)
(We're all dying)
Ok, byeeee.
