Lena

Finally, the wall collapsed. We broke through, we tore down the wall. The Wilds stood before us, looking beautiful and calm. Alex somehow weaved through the crowd and held my right hand, as Grace was gripping my left one. Grace let out a small gasp and gaped at the Wilds. I shot a grin at Alex and gave me a quick kiss, before walking towards the Wilds, which appeared to be calling us. I followed him, still holding Grace’s hand. I will never let her go, never again.

“Wowwwwww!” Grace grinned ear to ear and ran towards the forest, laughing and smiling. I ran after her but just to be scooped up in Alex’s arms. I laughed and felt his chest bouncing as he chuckled. Grace ran back to us and jumped up and down excitedly while saying “I found a river! And a bird! And a chipmunk!” Both Alex and I laughed even harder and I wrapped my arms around his neck, smiling up at him. I started rambling, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know what I was doing when I was with Julian. I just wasn’t strong enough and I missed you and he reminded me of you and I never stopped loving you. I-“ He kissed my lips softly. “Lena,” he said, “It’s okay. I’m sorry I was with Coral; I never stopped loving you either. Just seeing you with Julian made me jealous.” He smiled down at me and played with a piece of my hair before putting me down. “I love you, Lena.” I smiled cheekily at him, “I love you too, Alex.”

I held his hand and walked to my mom, who was talking to some of the other high officers for the resistance. “Lena!” She grinned and hugged me tightly. “We were just talking about what’s happening in other parts of the country where rebellions are taking place.” She paused for a moment when she saw me and Alex’s hand intertwined and raised an eyebrow. I felt warmth rise in my cheeks but she kept talking, “All around the country, rebels have been tearing down the border fences and walls. The reinforcements didn’t even have a chance against our troops, there was much more of us then them when some uncureds and few cureds joined in.” I looked over at Alex who was grinning widely and I joined him. “That’s great!” I exclaimed. Mom nodded and I walked towards Coral, Julian, and the others. They all looked sad, and suddenly I remembered what happened to Raven. Oh no… They saw me walk over and Alex put his arm around my shoulders in an effort to comfort me.

Julian saw Alex and I, and his face became stony with no emotion. But I could see sadness in his eyes. He slowly explained what happened, “Hunter…” My heart plummeted into my stomach, “He didn’t make it. H-he was killed while taking out the guard towers.” Julian looked down, along with the others. Alex put his lips against my head and said softly, “I’m so sorry Lena…” I tried to hold back tears but didn’t succeed, and soon I was soaking Alex’s shirt in tears. “I think I saw Raven and Tack though.” I looked up hopefully at him and I sprinted towards the hospital that the rebels took over and made into an infirmary for wounded rebels and innocent citizens. Alex trailed behind me and I ran through the double doors, the smell of chemicals and medicine invading my nose.

Raven

My eyelids felt like they were glued shut, I tried opening them but they just refused. I could hear the world around me though, Tack’s worried pleas to the doctors and soothing voice saying things like “It’s okay Raven, everything will be okay.” And “Just stay with me Raven!”

Then I heard the voice I grew so used to hearing everyday, Lena’s angelic voice. My heart skipped a few beats when I heard her, I thought she was dead. She was yelling “Does anyone know where Raven is!? She has black hair, dark eyes, and-“ “Over here!” Tack announced to her. I heard two pairs of feet sprinting towards me and felt Lena grab my hand. “R-Raven, you’re gonna be okay, you’re okay” She squeezed my hand and I felt the gurney I was on being rolled into a hospital room. The doctors shooed everyone away and Lena and whoever she was with left after saying “I’ll come back as soon as I can.”

Tack refused to leave and the doctors finally gave up in trying to make him go. He held my hand the whole time to doctors pricked me with needles and stuck tubes into my body. “She’s stable.” The doctors said after an hour or so. Then Tack’s rough voice spoke up, “What about the baby?” How did he know about the baby? Did he find the pregnancy test? Because I told nobody… “Stable” was the last thing I heard before a needle plunged into my arm and blackness overwhelmed me as I fell into a deep sleep.
