for one of the first moments in his life, lukas felt safe. here he was, crouching in the freezing snow, in his human form, arms wrapped around the one he has been admiring for three years.
and yet, moments don't last, and as soon as the warmth from the other left him as he pulled away, lukas shifted back to his wolf self. thankfully, mathias didn't see the transformation.
it was late, mathias lived alone, he wouldn't realize what had happened before dawn. even then, he'd assume it was all a dream. lukas quickly pulled away from the taller figure, darting back into the woods before mathias could confirm what had just occurred. everything would go back to normal.
that's what lukas had thought, at least. he hadn't expected mathias to return from his house, now fully dressed, only to barrel into the forest just as lukas had. a small box of flavored crackers were clutched in his hand, and he was whistling softly. for some reason, the sounds urged lukas to reveal himself, not to mention the delicious scent the crackers left behind.
and when mathias finally comes into full view, lukas couldn't help but feel almost excited. but he couldn't, not until he was sure the bite had worked.
a werewolf bite, the change to become a werewolf could occur between a span of a few days to a couple years. mathias was taking the longest to transform to be dated, at least from lukas's knowledge. still, the wolf couldn't help but be eager to await the change.
lost in his own head, lukas didn't notice mathias's presence until he felt a cracker hit his head. wincing, the wolf spun around to face the other being, and within seconds his breathing became heavy. slowly, the dane drew closer.
should he fight back? no. despite already having injured mathias something about him made lukas wish to spare him. flanking the ground, the wolf took a tense step backwards, only to have mathias spring forward, grasping the wolf's face as he cupped it between his hands.
"you." the man murmured, their gazes locked. "who are you?"
at his touch, a feeling of warmth rippled under lukas's skin. no, no.
lukas let out a snarl, jerking himself free of the other's grasp. mathias winced as his hands were thrown off, making lukas feel slightly guilty.
the beast took no time to pull away and dash back through the trees, not looking back. that'd be one of the last times he'd go anywhere near mathias for a while.
