It was another Sunday after church and Autumn was saying goodbye to the members of the congregation as they all walked outside. Being the first lady of the church, it was her duty to make sure that everyone felt comfortable and at ease when they entered and exited St. Missionary Baptist Church.
She wore a knee length yellow sun dress with a large white hat and black 1 inch heels. Even though she was only 23, she had to keep a good and clean image. Eyes were always watching you, waiting for you to make one mistake so that you could be judged and criticized.
She married her high school sweet heart, Brian, right after college. She wanted to pursue a degree in medical science, but her husband wanted her to stay home and become a house wife. Her husband of 6 months had been preaching since he graduated from high school. All the men in his family were pastors, so it was expected that he followed in their footsteps.
Autumn's father was also a pastor, and always kept his daughter on a tight leash. He told her how to dress, how to talk, how to act, and how to live. She never had any say on the decisions that were made for her. Her father even excepted Brian's marriage proposal before Autumn had the chance to object.
She always had to play the role of the perfect preacher's daughter, and she hated it. Not being able to make her own mistakes, and always having to please everyone else was beginning to take a toll on. But as usual, she had to put a fake smile on her face and pretend like she was happy.
One by one the pews became empty. When everyone was gone, Autumn sat down and took a deep breath in. She was exhausted from the 4 hour church service and only wanted to relax now. She closed her eyes as she leaned her head down on the pew.
"I see someone's tired", Brian said as he walked up and gave her a kiss on the cheek
"I'm Exhausted", she said as she sat up "When can we leave? I'm hungry"
"I told you to eat before we left", he said sitting next to her "Pastor Richard invited me to preach at his church's anniversary"
"Uggggghhhhh" she groaned "Do I have to go"
"Of course you do" he said with a smile "A pastor's wife is always supposed to be next to her man at these types of events" "It's all about the image that we portray"
All he cared about was making sure that his good christian family's image was kept intact. No matter if his wife was tired or sick or even dying, he wanted to have the best, look the best, and be the best.
Autumn let out a large sigh as she stood up.
"Fine i'll go", she said in an irritated tone "But I'm going home to change first and get me something to eat"
"Ok honey"
"Just hurry up" he said as he stood up "I'll meet you at home so we can leave together"
Autumn said goodbye as she walked to her car and drove home. After 20 minutes of driving she had finally arrived home. She quickly ran in the house and took off her clothes. She ran into the bathroom and turned on the shower. She checked the temperature and finally got in when she was satisfied. She quickly washed herself and turned off the water as she stepped out and wrapped a towel around her body. She walked into her closet and pulled out a pair of black dress pants with a white button down blouse. She quickly got dressed and slipped on a pair of white and black heels. She put her hair into a tight bun and applied a small amount of make-up.
She grabbed her pocket book and keys and walked out to her car. She got in and decided to drive to McDonald's to get her a quick bite to eat. While she was driving her phone started ringing. She stuck one hand in her pocket book as she drove with the other. She searched around her bag as it continued to ring. She turned her head from the road and looked in her bag for it. She finally got it and saw that it was her husband calling. She looked back at the road and BANG!
