"How you doing, Clyde?" Jason said with a cheerful pat on my back. "You kicked Tim today and the meeting."
"It was nothing personal, just work. You know how it is, Jase."
Jason Scklovsky. My first guy friend. We met when we were twenty three, we were both young and filled with dreams. I just lost 42 pounds,I had my second degree at hand and a great job. Jason on the hother hand just got a great job after his second degree and he wasn't that excited about it. He never met my other self.
My fat self.
"Are you sure it's not about Shannon?" He smirked and winked at me.
"Tell Melinda I can't wait to meet her next Saturday." I said and walked out of the office.
"Tell Shannon I miss my old friend! She and that Tim doesn't belong together, we all know that." He said.
We passed across Olivia's desk, she was sitting there, writing notes, preparing tomorrow's schedule. She'll have another two hours to be here. She was my best secretary up until now.
"Goodbye Olivia."
"Goodbye Mr. Harrington."
"Does Olivia knows I believe you're meant for each other?" Jason said as we entered the elevator and watched the grey doors close after us.
"I have no idea. Neither do I care. I'm thinking on firing her." I say and press the button.
"Another one?! What did this one do? She seemed perfect!" Jason said.
"She is perfect. In any way, so perfect I was drown into her." I gazed at the white numbers that we're going down as we passed the floors. "I slept with her for about three months."
"I figured it was something like that. Why would you do something so stupid? She seems like a great worker!" Jason leaned at elevator grey wall.
"She is a great worker." I said. The elevator doors we're open.
"Then why firing her?" We got out of the big tall black building. Harrington & Scklovsky ltc.
"She started having feelings." I said. The guy standing in front of the building brought me the keys to my car. He was about to bring the keys to Jason but Jason just waved his hand.
"Just leave my car at the place she were, I'll take it tomorrow." He got into my car and smirked at me. "This one is way too much interesting. Keep on don't feel bothered by me."
"How can I not feel bothered by you?" I said and drove away from the building. "Anyway, she started to develop feelings. I have no idea why I haven't lead her to anything, yet she still started with the feelings. What is wrong with women?"
"Yeah! What is wrong with them? Always trying to love and stuff. Stupid women! Come on, it's about you and the feelings you are hiding towards Shannon. I was always thinking you had feeling for her, but I saw you kiss her."
If I wasn't a calm person from my being I might have made a car accident in that moment.
The kiss.
"Please, I was drunk."
"You're in love and I should've seen it earlier." Jason said and opened the window. He lite up a cigarette and blew it out the window.
"It doesn't matter. I'm thinking about firing Olivia." I said once again.
"Don't fire her. She's a good worker. Just... be cold and stop fucking the girl."
"Sensitive."
"Thank you. I'd like to think about myself as one."
"Shut up. So I shouldn't fire her?" I asked.
"It's hard for me to believe that she'll look for revenge but she can drop some charges against you. Besides she's a great worker, I believe she have a bright future. Leave her for the moment." Jason said and threw away what was left from the smoke. Which was a little.
"I guess it's fine. I'm gonna meet Shannon for dinner tonight. We were supposed to meet for lunch but something came up and I couldn't make it." I stopped in front of a building.
"Are you sure you couldn't make it?" Jason asked and his eyes told me everything I needed. He thought I was trying to make it more than it was by turning this lunch to a dinner. Everyone thought it. Even my parents had the feeling I was craving for Shannon, but she was just my friend. and a good one at that.
"I'm not making it more than it is. It's just a friends dinner, and even though I know how you feel about Tim dating Shannon even if they were to break up me and her would never happen for the simple reason that..." I couldn't say it out loud. Couldn't make myself to say that we won't happen because she saw my true self in so many forms. "We just won't."
Jason breathed deeply.
"You were fat. She saw you get angry one time at the world and you got hospitalized. I know all of that. We are friends for so long. But don't let your past put dark shades on your future. The reason you will never be together is not because you were the fat loser at high school, but because she loves someone else now. You should realize that by now." He opened the car door. "But, if you will acknowledge yourself that you have feelings for her and that you want them I will kick this Tim's ass away for you." He went out of the car and I saw walking away to his building.
I was going to the gym. Working out for hour and half, trying not to think about the my conversation with Jason. I got into my shower for the second time today and this shower was longer. I looked at myself in the mirror and I put on some perfume. Later on, I wore a black suit, with black shirt and I left the first buttons on it open.
I knew what I was doing but I tried to ignore it. I was trying to get Shannon attention but I put that thought away. I brushed my hair a little and moved it with my hand to the back.
Time to go and play.
