Chapter three. CLYDE

I end up my meeting with Lucinda after an aggressive fifty minutes talk and less sixty four dollars from my bank account. Yes. Lucinda is a very talented woman so she can offered to take sixty dollars from people who can offered it.

I take out my cellphone and text Clyde. I ask him if he can meet for lunch in thirty minutes. Usually he'll turn it into dinner but since I know he have plans with Naveen tonight, I also know he'll say yes to the lunch idea.

He's been seeing her for a few weeks, I've heard of her before I met her, and I know he's serious about her.

I remember the words of Lucinda. I'm just being over protective since Clyde is my childhood best friend. I want him to need me since I still see myself as an ugly, scar-faced girl. I just need to start feeling good about myself and maybe then I'll understand the attraction of Clyde to the girl he can't stop talking over at our lunch. Our lunch. Our. About us. Not her. Why he keeps talking about her? She's not a model but she did get offers. Of course she rejected them! She wanted to be a lawyer so she could bring justice to the world.

Yes. Yes. I will love her as soon as I'll get to meet her better.

"Maybe you should get to know Tim better?" I ask and take a bite of my salad.

"You know what? Maybe I should. Naveen talked to me about the whole situation. She thinks it's unhealthy that I hate the guts of this person without knowing him and since I adore you so much it's important to give him a chance." Clyde says and I see a smile I haven't seen on his face very often.

The last time I saw this smile was before Tim and I met. Maybe this Naveen girl really takes the good out of him.

"I'm happy for you." I say with a smile and take another bite.

"Okay, what's wrong?" Clyde asks. He hasn't touched his meal at all. They say it happens in love but if only I could trust that to be true with him. At first he said he was starving, and ordered pasta. Then he won't touch it at all.

"Eat."

"What's wrong?" He asks again.

"Eat." I say again.

"I'll eat when you tell me why you're upset."

I inhale deeply. Here it comes. The end of my meeting with Lucinda came to the conclusion I now have to face. Telling Clyde was a part of this conclusion.

"I'm taking a little trip."

"Another one? I'm glad Tim is working for me, this was I know he earns and I don't have to worry about your job." He says and takes a bite. "Yami." His lips are moving as he chewing. A little cream sauce remind on his lower lips and he licks it slowly.

"Yes. Delicious." He says.

"Well, this trip isn't for fun. I talked to Lucinda today and we both decided I should meet a person that keeps me away from moving on with my life."

"And that person? I probably know him. Right? Is it Tim?" He asks with a mischievous look in his eyes.

"Remember Ryan?"

Clyde stops eating. He looks at me and drink from his glass of sparkling water. Then he waves the waitress and order Scotch and just looking at me.

"Drinking at the middle of the day?" I ask.

"Meeting with Ryan Goddard?" He ask.

"I knew you'd remember him."

"How can I forget? It's not like I think about the man every day, but I do have a scar because of him, and not the mentally kind, even though he took care of that too." Clyde says and his order arrives. He takes a long sip and ends it all at once.

"I... I'm sorry. But he was big part of my high school years and I need to talk to him." I say in dispare.

"He was a huge part of my high school life too you don't see me run to talk to him about it."

"I loved him."

Clyde stares at me for a much sent before starting to smile.

"Well now I understand why you've never been into me. You just dig assholes. If I'll be such an ass to you would you date me too?"

I look at him with disgust. At this moment he looks like the most ugly person in the world despite of how handsome he is on the outside.

I take out my wallet.

"I'm sorry." I hear him from a distance. I put on the taboe some money and get out of the restaurant.

"Shannon!" He suddenly grabs my hand and hugs me. I dont want to make a scandal at the middle of the city in the middle of the day so I let him take me to his car but he puts me in the back sit. He gets in after me and hold me tight. "I'm sorry but what did you expect my reaction to look like?"

"Not this."

Suddenly Clyde feels closer than he ever was since I've been dating Tim. I can feel his hot breath on my cheek and the warmness of his body.

Did we really not intend to be together at the end?

"Why is he so important to you?" He asks.

"I loved him. And he said he loved me. He used to tell me.how pretty I am and how much beauty there is in me like there is out. When we were seventeen I lost my virginity to him and we were sleeping together until the end of high school. No one knew."

I feel his chest. He stopped breathing. Then he started again.

"Tim knows about every kiss I had with you. He knows how you feel but I never thought I'll feel the same. Why does it feel so right to kiss you now?"

Clyde just keeps on holding me. Then he looks back and all I can think about for hours is the sad look in his eyes.
