"Mikasa, why did the Corporal want you in his office? Did you get in trouble?" Armin, who was worried about his friend, asked.
Mikasa's hand traveled to the red garment adorned on her neck, softly clutching it between her fingers. "It's nothing, really." She let out a mutter.
"Mikasa−"
"I'm in Hanji-san's squad. That's all." She cut him off, hinting that she didn't want to talk anymore.
"Did something happen between you two?" Eren chided, a murderous look on his face.
"No." Mikasa replied, a red tint rising on her cheeks. "He just wanted to keep an eye on me. And the only way to do that was putting me in her squad."
Eren raised an eyebrow. "But, wouldn't it be more wise that, you know, place you in his squad?" He asked.
Mikasa shrugged, not really caring about the conversation at this point. "Maybe it's because he knows that you'll go after you, Eren. If he puts her in his squad, he'll have to control a Titan and someone who would do anything to save it. Cause he can't stop you from doing something reckless." Armin guessed, immediately taking it back. "I-I mean he might-"
"It's fine Armin. I know what you mean." She gave him a reassuring smile. The blond was always, well, weak. He deeply cared about his friends, making him always worried. Though, he was very intelligent, and acted on knowledge, not instinct. He may not know it yet, but he was the one who had made this all possible, which means they were able to catch the female type.
"Don't be too hard on yourself Armin." She spoke softly, seeing Eren nod in agreement. "She's right, you know. You're the reason we're all alive. If it weren't for you-I mean I wasn't there but people say you were a genius by thinking about distracting them with guns and attacking from behind." Eren gave him a friendly pat on the back, and grinned brightly.
The blond blushed. "Well, I wasn't-"
"You were." Mikasa cut him off, impatient. "You are a genius Armin, though you never give yourself much credit."
"T-Thank you, you guys." He stuttered, blushing harder. Eren gave him a playful punch in the arm, smiling.
'It's like the old times...' She thought, recalling the memories of when Wall Maria was just something blocking their curiosity, when everything wasn't a kill or be killed statement, when everything was fine. When they knew they would be there the next day.
Mikasa didn't realize she was frowning, until Eren asked, "Hey, something wrong?"
She shook her head, a straight lie that was hidden in her actions. "We should get to training, before we're in trouble." Mikasa suggested, receiving a nod from her two friends.
And the trio walked together, as if it were the old times, the old times where everything was just life.
