6:45 PM: 15 Minutes until Game Time

ALLY'S POV

"Look Mans." I said into my phone receiver as I opened up another textbook, "I really want to come to your game but-"

"But nothing, Ally." Normani bit at me, "This is my first game of the season and you always come. You're my good luck charm and you know how superstitious I am."

"You and I both know there's no such thing as bad luck." I smiled. "I just don't want to go because-"

"If it's Lauren, don't worry. I'm sure she'll find a way to get over the fact that one girl doesn't want her. Just please show up." Mani begged. "And you need to hurry because spots are filling up fast."

"I'll be there soon." I sighed out after a long moment of contemplating what my best choice would be.

I hurried into some blue jean high waisted shorts and a black top before yanking my hair out of the bun it was in and letting my messy waves fall onto my shoulders.

--

I made it just in time for the game and the tickets were almost gone. I guess God was watching out for my friendship.

I hurried to find a spot on a bleacher to see our team in a huddle across from another team.

I saw Normani plain as day since her number was seven and she was probably one out of three other black girls on the team.

As soon as they broke apart, I saw the girl I had been trying to avoid for days and she didn't look the same. She seemed so angry and unkempt.

Our team was in the field first. I kept my eyes on Lauren as she prepared to throw the first pitch. I saw the absolute raging emotions seeping off of her person.

Her first pitch was crazy fast and already caught the other team off guard, causing the batter to swing too late. Everyone cheered in the stands but Lauren blocked out the whole world and continued throwing fast pitches.

Eventually, the opposing team got sent to the field and our team was able to bat. I can see why Lauren beat Normani out for pitcher now.

I kind of blocked out most of the game with my own thoughts about Lauren.

I know I'm not supposed to get involved with someone while I'm here. I've got too much on my plate and another relationship would not help me out. It was bad enough last time.

But then again, I can't help but regret my choices of telling Lauren to leave me alone. That's the problem. I don't want her to leave me alone. I was the first girl she took on a date for a reason and that made me feel even more special than I ever thought I could.

Finally, two hours later, our team won 10-2. Mostly because of Lauren's fast pitches and Normani's catching skills. They were probably the best dynamic duo that this school had ever seen. There's no doubt in my mind they'll take this team to the national championship.

I sat in the stands and waited for Mani to text me like she always did because we'd usually go out to get food after games.

And like clockwork, she did.

manibear: come to the locker room please :)

me: ok I'll be there in a few minutes

--

Girls from the team went in and out of the locker room and I patiently leaned against the wall, waiting for Normani to come out.

While I was looking at the sports trophies in a glass casing across from me I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.

manibear: hey so would you be down to come with a few of the girls and I + dinah to a burger place a few miles from here?

me: of course :) sounds wonderful.

manibear: the thing is... if we go, you, me and Dinah will be in Lauren's car...

me: :( mani

manibear: c'mon. it's just one night and I'll pay for your food. I promise.

me: fine. :( then I'm buying whatever. I'm out here.

manibear: we'll be out there as soon as Lauren gets out of the shower. entertain Dinah for me until then pls

me: where is she?

manibear: she said she's on her way to the locker room door.

I turned my head to see that tall, tan girl who I had met a while ago. And by tall, I mean it. She was so huge but in the best ways. And she had stolen Normani's heart. I actually liked what I heard about Dinah so I had no problem being friendly.

"Hey short stack." Dinah greeted me with a hug, "How's it going?"

"Pretty good, Dinah Jane. How are you?" I couldn't help but be all smiley towards her. She was so hype all the time and it was a good feeling.

"Couldn't be better." She told me, pulling her phone out of her pocket. She flicked over her screen for a second and read over something before speaking to me again, "Normani told me that Lauren just got done with her shower so they'll be out in a few minutes."

"Okay." I could feel my voice get a little shaky. I was a bit nervous to see Lauren after all of this mess but I knew it had to happen.

"So," Dinah raised her brow, "You like Lauren?"

I shook my head with a slight smirk, "Oh, DJ you're so funny." I'm not sure if my sarcasm was obvious enough.

"Well, she likes you." Dinah admitted. "Or liked. You've kind of been ignoring her lately so I don't know what's going on there."

I brushed my fingers through my hair nervously and nodded, "Yeah, I have."

"Um," I could tell Dinah didn't want to say this but it was almost as if she felt a need to let it come out, "If it makes you feel better, this is the first time she's took an interest into someone. If she did something wrong, maybe you two could talk about it. She's been my friend since freshman year of high school and I've never even heard of her asking someone on a date."

"Really?" I questioned her honestly but she nodded and looked into my eyes. "I guess I can try, then."

Dinah's attention turned towards the locker room door. I turned around and noticed that it was because Lauren and Normani had exited the room.

Dinah went over to softly peck Normani's lips happily and I awkwardly nodded over to Lauren but her eyes did their best to not meet mine. It kind of hurt.

"Should we go?" Normani asked with a smile.

"Well, we shouldn't stay." Lauren laughed.
