~ A week later ~

Everyone in the group is drained emotionally and physically.

We have set up camp in a forest near Atlanta in a small town named Sandy Springs about 20 miles out of the city. The horses are enjoying the apocalypse, they get to run as far as their leads will let them go.

Just earlier I took Nelly my dappled gray mare into town to get some medication just incase we ever would need any, but i found camping store were I took some cantines, food and this really handy tarp, some rope, and a net thingy. When I got back we all decided to be stationed up in an old oak tree near by.

So I climed about 50 maybe 60 feet up to the large and sturdy branches and fastened the net put some dead leaves in it, it streached out as long as a school bus and 5 wide they all tossed up their sleeping bags and all the supplies, we tied the horses ropes to a diffrent near by tree.

3 yards away the girls started the long climb up.

We all decided to pretty much stay in that general area, because its near a town if anything were to happen.Taylor has noticed a diffrence in me ever since I almost died at the church waiting for Carl.

she doesnt know I was at the church she thinks that I went to stop at 7/11 to get a gallon of milk. But I got lost on the way home.

shes not telling me why she was alone and were our parents are!

I cant get Carl out of my mind the same questions are buzzing around my head!

"is he ok? "

"were is he? "

" is he concerned about me? "

"does he even have the same feeling that i do of him?"

I thought quietly to myself, hoping it would lull me back in to a driftful sleep. But it never worked. I watched the sun rise in awe. I scurried down the tree a pocket knife lodged in my bra.

I cooked over a fire, and heated up some water so it would be safe to drink. I heated up some canned Mexican beans, throwing down the empty can I looked up hastily as I heard a crows call. I stood up ready to draw the knife.

Nothing happened, soon Chris hurried down the trees trunk and met me at the bottom.

"You didn't sleep... " she said blankly at me.

" what do you mean?" I asked her smiling.

" There is rings under your eyes..." she replied.

" Stop being such a smart ass! " I retorted at her smiling and giggling for the first time in- probably a long, long time! She shrugged and beamed again laughing.

" Nice language!" Taylor spat out grumpily as she reached the bottom of the oak tree.

Her voice was still glazed with sleep, " Good morning to you too!" I mumbled, so only Chris and I could hear. The sun was burning my back now. It was probably around noonish.

The girls and I walked down to the river and undressed, stepping into the creek and feeling the cool rush of fresh water splash up against our skin. The cuts and scrapes, from running and hiding were soothed.

" We went streaking in the park, Skinny dipping in the dark! Last Friday night!" Kyleain sang retardedly, just trying to be annoying and push Taylor buttons.

I don't think it worked though. Taylor just ignored her. Tay has been in a bad mood ever since we left home, it's like she hates me now because I made her leave. If I hadn't then she would probably be gutted by now.

We finished our " baths" and walked back to camp in silence. We learned to seek around, just I case there was a walker. If it were to see us we were flat out screwed!

That night at dinner we all sat around a camp fire, that kindled just to embers. " Remember Lindsay?" I asked laughing. They all nodded. " Remember when she ran into a pole and blamed it on me in the 2nd grade?" I asked laughing in between words.

Chris giggled.

" What's that?" Chris spat out nervously, she looked up at the sky quickly.

" Huh? " I asked. Something was rumbling, I jumped up and scurried up the tree. I snatched up the binoculars, perching up in the top of the tree I watched Helicopters drop things on to the city of Atlanta.

I gasped, my eyes filled with tears. Flames arouse from the now burning city. Taylor lunged at me, I handed her the binoculars. She looked them and gasped. She whimpered into my shoulder as I watched the city smoulder sending billowing smoke into the starless Georgia sky.
