"Ma dis is di twenty first century. Twenty-eight is very young..." Zoe argued, while hurriedly packing her bag for work. "Young meh foot. How long dem man does las wid u? Three months. Way yuh doin wrong?" "I doh have to be doin anything wrong ma. Ah jus not feelin it." "Not feelin it? Not feeling it? Like yuh need ah new feeler owa? Yuh forget how yuh fadda an me get married..." "Ma ah fedup of di story." "Buh like yuh need to hear it again..." "Actually ma, ah late for work. Ah have a big project ah workin on an ah can't afford to be late. So see yuh later ma." Zoe kissed her mother and rushed out the door. She jumped into her wagon and sped off down her avenue as she turned up .

"Beep! Beeeep!" An annoyed Zoe honked her car horn as she lowered the radio and peered ahead. A vehicle had stalled at the junction and village block. She then noticed Daredevil leaning through the window, engaging with the driver. When they heard the horn, Daredevil and some of the other men hanging out on the block looked toward her vehicle. She quickly checked her locks as she remembered that she was at a notorious corner. A man with a frown on his face, with his head tied in a dark bandanna, his neck draped in a large golden necklace and wearing low hanging, torn jeans approached her vehicle. Zoe's heart rate increased. She wondered if she should maintain her calm or swiftly overtake the vehicle in front of her ad drive off while she could. But she wondered if the latter case would make him angrier. They knew who she was anyway, and where she lived. The man came closer and stared angrily through her windshield. She heard a whistle. It was Daredevil. The man who approached her vehicle turned to watch him. Daredevil shook his head before looking at her in a concerned manner. The man watched back at her angrily and then walked back towards Daredevil who whispered something to the man. The man glanced back at Zoe again before turning back to Daredevil and giving him a bounce. He stared at Zoe as he walked off back to the other men. Daredevil was also staring at Zoe, but when she returned the stare after looking at the man who was still staring, he shifted his eyes and signalled to the driver of the vehicle he had engaged with to proceed. He stood at the side of the road as Zoe followed with her vehicle. As she turned to ensure the way was clear, she noticed him staring at her, this time not shifting his eyes. He looked as though he wanted to say something. However, since she was already late and not sure she wanted to hear what he wanted to say, she did not stall. Instead, she turned the vehicle so swiftly that the tyres screeched.

Zoe had always been a very focused girl. She was not the type to go to parties, hang out late with friends, be seen in a secluded location with a member of the opposite sex, wear revealing attire, or break her mother's rules. She was always thought of as being the favourite, although she often denied it. Because of her focused, driven nature, she was the most academically successful of her siblings and was regarded as the light of the family. Her mother was a stay-at-home seamstress and homemaker; her elder sister Zelda was a hairdresser; her younger brother Zade was a welder; and her baby sister Zennia worked at a bakery. Her father who passed away just before they moved to Enterprise was a 'Jack of all trades', but a mechanic by profession. Zoe was a Project Officer II in the Youth Division at the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child Development. She had recently acquired the post. Zoe was also very talented. She sang in her church choir, played the violin and was good at painting. Although she was mainly driven by her work and studies, she enjoyed the outdoors, cricket, action movies, conscious and dance music, dancing and a good laugh. In fact, she even played cricket for her high school. However, the men who Zoe dated failed to appease her interests. She tended to attract established, successful, handsome, well spoken men who worked in white collar jobs. She knew that dating such men made her family happy and was what she must have deserved, yet she was getting fed up of being bored. Sometimes she wondered if she was meant to be alone but this was refuted by a prophetic word given to her that God would soon reveal the man that her heart desired, but the man was still being shaped by God. How long before this man is finished being shaped and is ready, and how will I know it is him? She often wondered.
