One Wolf Changed Everything

Chapter 5

I asked, "They want me to what?!" 

"To come to dinner tonight. I'm not asking for much,"said Derek.  

I sighed and agreed to go to dinner.I called Mom to let her know that I was having dinner with Derek's family. I glared at Derek and he kissed me on my nose.I smiled and made it through the day without panicking. Derek drove me home and was amazed at the sight of my house. He waited downstairs like a gentleman while I changed clothes.I wore a midnight blue summer dress with flip flops. We left quickly, so my mom couldn't get a picture of us. Derek seemed nervous and I was the one reassuring him. He parked in his driveway. Derek helped me out of the truck. I wasn't sick, but weak.Derek led me into the house. His mom and dad were waiting on us. I liked his mom instantly and felt the need to lower my gaze, but I didn't. 

"Amber, meet my mom, Zoey, and my dad, Matthew. Mom and Dad, meet Amber,"said Derek. 

Zoey gave me a hug and I shook Matthew's hand firmly. I knew I looked sick as hell. Matthew and Derek went to go do some guy thing to bond over and I sat to talk with Zoey.  

"I can tell you make my son happy.What is this disease you have called?"said Zoey. 

I said, "Advanced Cycle, it's where the person who has it goes through cycles of extreme sickness and can cause trouble breathing.It's more advanced than we first thought. I become more tired easily now a days." 

Zoey nodded and gave my a sympathetic smile. I smiled back at her. I felt weird, but managed to stay sitting up. 

"Amber, are you alright?"asked Zoey.  

I nodded, knowing that of they heard my voice that I would be lying.I reached inside my purse and took out a needle and a syringe. I got the dose then injected it into my thigh.Zoey watched the whole thing then turned back to cooking. 

"So, Derek tells me you've lived here since you were born,"said Zoey. 

I said, "Actually, that's wrong.I was in a car crash when I was ten then was adopted by the Woods." 

She nodded and continued cooking.We were left with a comfortably silence. 

Matthew and Derek came through the back door about a half hour later. Zoey was setting the table and I was slowly moving towards the dining room.Derek came over and helped me. Matthew watched his son's face as he helped me to the table then followed his wife into the kitchen. 

"What did you find out?"asked Matthew.  

"Her memory is gone from here car accident and her new family are werewolves. Her disease is getting worse, Matthew. I can smell it. Derek might have to change her,"said Zoey. 

Matthew growled at that. He didn't want me to be changed into their kind. Matthew looked at his wife, who was worried about my illness. I started coughing really hard and struggled to breath. Derek looked concerned about it and he went into the kitchen to get me a glass of water. Matthew and Zoey looked at him when he came into the kitchen. Derek got a glass of water then left the room. I was trying to walk around the room when he came in. He sat the water down then came over to me.He put his arms around my waist and held me against him.I felt glad to have him supporting my weight. I looked up at the pictures of wolves running through the snow. 

I said, "I wish one day, I'll see snow before I die." 

Derek made a noise and I looked up into his shocked face. I gave him a weak smile and he kissed my forhead.I feeling weaker by the minute, just stand there. Derek helped me back to my seat when Zoey and Matthew came out with food. I ate a little bit of food, knowing I was going to puke it up later. Matthew was talking when something made him stop. Derek stiffened beside me. 

"Sweethearts, you're frightening Amber,"said Zoey. 

Derek and Matthew looked at me.I was scared of them. 

Zoey patted my hand then looked at her husband.  

"You can go investigate the sounds,"said Zoey. 

They bolted towards the sounds I couldn't hear.Zoey made a move towards me when I started to have a seizure. She pick me up and rushed out to her car. I fell into darkness.
