chapter 1

Astrid. Anna. I've had Astrid for 13 years of my life. I've had Anna for 3. Does anyone even remember my real name? I write my name on my worksheet. Anna Reed. I was supposed to start this 20 minutes ago.

"Okay everyone, pencils down. I'd like to announce the final project of the year,"Mr.Forish says as the class erupts with joy,"But this is a humongous part of your grade. It will determine if you pass my class or not."

"You will be partnered up and assigned a project. You must work together or you will not pass."

Everyone immediately stares at who they want as their partner. My friend, Stella, and I look at each other and smile.

"Quit looking around. I'm choosing partners."Mr.Forish says and the class groans.

"These topics will be all over the place. Some will be from lower grades to see if you still remember. Anyways, Stella, you're with Gerald. You're project will be about electronics and how much they have improved. Rholly with James. You two will have plants. Talk about the growth and what different things plants can provide for us. Tim and Nyla. You will talk about harmful drugs such as tobacco and how it is harmful. Anna, you're with Calum. You two will talk about junk food and why it isn't healthy for our body system."

The list goes on but I don't listen and rest my head on my desk. My name has already been called so I don't need to listen anymore.

"Astrid?"

I lift my head from my desk and see Calum Hood. The star of the soccer team.

"It's Anna."I say with a forced smile.

"How do you get Anna from Astrid?"Calum asks.

I clench my jaw but pretend like it's nothing.

"Long story."I shrug as Calum takes a seat across from me.

"So Partner, "Calum says, taking my worksheet that I haven't started,"it seems to me that you have lots of time to tell me that long story of how Astrid turned into Anna."

I roll my eyes and snatch my paper back.

"No thanks, Stranger."
