Sunshine.
Oh how Sousuke hated it. It was always the first thing he saw when he woke up and he hated how it blinded him with light after spending many hours submerged in darkness.
Turning over onto his other side, he saw his beautiful wife. If he was lucky, he would wake up to the sight of her sleeping peacefully, her expression calm and relaxed. He could watch her for hours, if he didn't have to get up eventually.
Pressing a soft kiss on her temple, her eyes fluttered open before squinting, eyes adjusting to the light. Once she realized her husband was in front of her, she smiled, causing him to chuckle.
"Hi." Sousuke didn't say anything in reply, only pressing forward to give her a kiss on the lips. Things were turning heated quickly, and the couple wouldn't want anything less.
Soon enough, they were in a rather compromising position, gasping for air. "H-hey happy birthday... y-y'know?" You blushed, looking away from your teal-eyed husband. Sneaking another kiss, he gave a small smirk. "I wouldn't want anything else as my present." Just as things were about to start once again, the door slammed open.
"Mommy, can I have mackerel and pancakes?" There he was; the little tyke that seemed to ruin every one of Sousuke's plans to impress his wife and turn them around so that Sousuke looked like the bad guy. He always seemed to come at the worst possible times for the poor police officer. One time, Sousuke had planned on going to a restaurant with (Name) for their fifth anniversary, but Haru had been playing with Makoto around the house and when Sousuke came home, he accidentally slammed the door in Haru's face. You were so worried the whole time that the appointment at the restaurant didn't even cross your mind, even when Sousuke reminded you (more than once). You knew it was an accident, but you still told Sousuke to be more careful when opening doors. Now he opens them slowly so as not to hit any little boys running his way.
Untangling yourselves from the mess of sheets, you nodded, which was enough of an answer for Haru. He promptly left the room, not seeming to care about what was about to happen before he walked in.
You rose from the bed before grabbing your clothes for the day and heading to the bathroom to change. Sousuke laid there still, upset at Haru for ruining his birthday morning wake-up call. Nevertheless, he got up and put on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, glad that today was a day-off for him.
Entering the living room downstairs, Sousuke saw Haru sitting on the sofa watching his favourite cartoon about this weird bird thing. He went to the kitchen and made himself a cup of coffee before going back and sitting on an armchair. Picking up the newspaper, he started reading but not too long after, he felt like he was being watched. He realized he was right when he saw two big ocean-blue eyes in his direction.
"What's wrong?" Sousuke asked, but the child didn't reply; only staring at him for a bit before turning back to his show. "Hey, is something bothering you?" The officer was learning to be a 'better' father from his friend Kisumi. Like that was working. Haru scampered off somewhere upstairs, leaving an utterly confused Sousuke. 'Children are so weird...' He thought as he continued reading his paper.
"Haru, Sousuke! Breakfast!" You called, plating the pancakes on everyone's plate as well as a bit of mackerel on Haru's. Sousuke walked towards the kitchen, but saw Haru wasn't there, which was strange since he would always race to wherever his beloved fish was.
"Where's Haru?" The father asked, but only received a shrug in response. "Haru!" You called again, but when no footsteps were heard, you sent Sousuke up to get your son.
When Sousuke got to Haru's room, he found the little boy lying on his bed, simply watching his goldfish swim in its bowl. "Haru, breakfast's ready. Didn't you say you were hungry?" He nodded, but he didn't move from his position. Sighing, Sousuke went to sit beside Haru on his bed. "Are you alright? Did something happen?" The boy shook his head before getting up and going downstairs to eat.
Once the two arrived, you questioned your son. "Where were you when I called? The food's getting cold!" Haru looked a bit ashamed as he sat down. "Makoto said he was getting a brother and a sister soon, so I want to get one too." Sousuke and you almost choked on your pancakes. "I-is that so?" Haru nodded, finishing his plate. "Oh and Uncle asked me to give you this, so... Happy birthday Dad." He handed Sousuke a box which, when opened, was a rather... questioning item.
"I don't know what it's for, but he said to tell you 'Go get 'em tiger'." Haru said plainly before getting up and walking to the living room to play his game.
"Kisumi, you idiot."
