Chapter Six

She lay in her bed, eyes wide open, staring at the white ceiling of her room.

"It is your fault! If you hadn't - " came the sound of her mother, yelling.

"Do you ever just stop for a second and think about what you are doing?! Stop blaming things on others, Pamela."

"Don't you dare, Keith. Don't you fucking dare blame this one on me! You know nothing about this house anymore. You know nothing about your daughters or your wife, because you don't give a damn about us!"

Beatrice closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath. She looked at the digital clock on the nightstand, by her bed. It was well past midnight. And her parents were at each other's throats. She didn't even know what they were arguing about this time or why. It could be anything. Something as small as not feeding the dog or as big as them having an affair with the freaking President of Mars.

Honestly, Beatrice didn't give a flying shit about why they were fighting in the middle of the night. All she wanted right now was some peace. Her head was pounding with a terrible headache and she was hungry. For all she knew, she would find herself storming down the stairs, into her parents' room and taping their mouths shut with a duct tape.

That's how mad she was, right now.

A timid knock on her door brought her angry self under a little control.

Annabeth.

Beatrice jumped out of bed to open the door and let her little sister in. She looked like she had just woken up from sleep - thanks to their parents' late night show.

"Can I sleep with you, Beatrice?" she asked in her sleepy voice, rubbing her eyes.

"Sure. Come on in," Beatrice replied before closing the door after her and following her sister to the bed. Anna instantly got onto the bed and wrapped her blanket around herself, making herself comfortable in her older sister's bed. Beatrice just stood there, watching the young girl who shared the same dark hair and green eyes as her.

Annabeth Parker was quite the opposite of her sister. While Beatrice was bold and out-going, Anna was a shy and quiet girl. While Beatrice was looked down with raise eyebrows by the adults, Anna was adored by them. She was smart and charismatic though she lacked a little bit of self-confidence.

Beat smiled at the sleeping figure of her sister. She climbed into bed, next to her and pulled her covers on, "Good night, sweet peas," she whispered.

"Good night, Beatrice."

Eventually, the yelling and the quarreling had gone down. Around two o'clock in the morning, Beatrice heard the front door slam and figured that her father had left for the night. He'd do this every once in awhile whenever the fights got a little too serious, or whenever he knew that going on like this wouldn't work. He'd just leave and not come back for a couple of days.

The next morning Beatrice and Annabeth woke up with a start. The two girls were snuggled together when something - or rather someone - heavy fell on top of them.

"Get off, you jerk!" Beatrice yelped as she tried to push her best friend off of herself. "Do you have any idea how much you freaking weigh?!"

"Good morning to you too, Beastess," he chirped instead, using his nickname for the angry side of Beatrice. "What is my favourite girl doing with this monster?" he inquired looking at Annabeth with a dead serious look in his eyes. This caused the younger Parker sibling to giggle, "Hey, Raymond," she greeted him with her pretty smile. " I couldn't sleep last night."
