Part Eight

Naturally, the entire event was huge. Why wouldn’t it be? And true to their word, there were obvious changes to the Government. Firstly, all those who were imprisoned for protesting were released. There was public access to almost all Government files, no more secrets kept. The official documents regarding Tilly, Tyler’s and my parents were made easily accessible to us. We read them at the same time, and after the tears dried up, compared them. They were just too similar. We then proceeded to read into all the secrets the previous Governors and the Government had kept. Scandals of all variety had passed behind closed doors and whispered truths. So many people arrested on false charges to keep their mouths shut. Money passed hands for unknown reasons, clear corruption. Large sums of money paid for a ‘fight’. We quickly figured out that ‘fight’ should be read ‘hit’, ‘hit’ as in ‘kill’. The Government killed as many of its threats off as possible, reducing the risk of their fall.

And it had worked for many a year. None were alive from days when another government had reigned, and none had really challenged them before us.

But I didn’t only read into its faults. The monarchical structure had, in some respects, been highly effective. Children were trained from a young age into certain roles, and so by the time they entered their designated role, they were well trained and easily capable of the duties required of them. They analysed past mistakes and made decisions which in most cases benefitted both those they governed and themselves.

Keeping things in the family meant projects could be worked on for generations before completion, without a loss of knowledge by the demise of a member. This, in turn, meant the technology available to the Government was far beyond that available to the public. Even though a large amount of those files were released though, the public could not access the facilities and technology needed to create such high end products.

After reading between the lines a bit, I found that the Government did keep some level of control over the goings on within the world. They monitored a lot, and had access to the majority of personal files, keeping their own files on each and every person in the world. I could only imagine what their data centres looked like.

It seemed that over the past few years the Government had been slackening their control over the public, but that was mostly because everything was happening as they wanted it to. Three generations ago, there had been a sudden surge in nobodies being promoted rapidly to top jobs. These people were thinkers, and a way outside the Government’s manipulation. That was when the Government decided to clamp down on what control they held on the general populace. Discreetly of course, but they did it so well that in our generation they did not need to worry about any rash decisions being made by company heads.

The Government had been good at being discreet, some of the things I read about I hadn’t even noticed. They were also good at covering their tracks, but now the truth came out.

I also spent an entire night reading up on Posing technology. It was originally created for the Officers, for undercover jobs and to protect them from vengeful souls. It was also used for witness protection. That was when the technology, or some of it, had been leaked to the public. The public made their own version, and crime rates skyrocketed. Fortunately, the Officers did a major crackdown on Posing technology, and it returned to the point it was simply frowned upon in society, used by those who were discontented with their current appearance. Officers ceased their regular use, as public outcry forced them to, and all that wasn’t registered were the illegal pieces created after the crackdown. Even then, not many were made and their creators rarely sold them to major crime corporations; and they were often dodgy.

I wondered if Yvetzse had gotten hers from the Government, illegally or had perhaps even made it herself. I did a quick bit of research, and after clicking and clicking links I found a very interesting file created by Chris De Zeet days after the riot.

‘After some consideration, I have decided the most probable explanation of the heart conundrum.

As is known within the higher Officer community, it was determined that Yvetzse Roi-Sun was dead when her heart, or what was thought to be her heart, was found in her father’s mouth. It is now known, however, that Ms Roi-Sun is in fact alive and well, and that her heart remains in her body.

This created a conundrum, as where could the heart have come from? Theories were discussed at length. They included, but were not limited to:

-Ms Roi-Sun had a twin, or a secret sibling with near identical DNA

-The heart belonged to someone with similar DNA as Ms Roi-Sun, and mingled with the late Governor Roi-Sun’s DNA (This was easily denied after more analysis was completed on the evidence.)

-The heart had been filled with Ms Roi-Sun’s blood, but did not belong to her

Eventually I recalled that not only did Ms Roi-Sun have the knowledge required to grow a clone of her own heart, but also possessed the technology necessary to do such a feat. I have concluded that this theory is the most likely. However, it cannot be confirmed as only Ms Roi-Sun has access to her own room, and we cannot force the issue with her.

I will endeavour to attempt to determine the truth behind what happened, however I do believe that it may forever be a mystery.’

Yvetzse grew her own heart? She had ‘the knowledge required to grow a clone of her own heart’? This news was rather shocking.

The next day, I followed the links, but the link to the document was now dead. I had ascertained the previous day that the only way to access that document was via the chain I had miraculously found. With a bit of searching I found that the file had been recalled from public viewing by its creator.

It was just a bit too convenient, I thought, but instantly brushed it off. Who cares? I had a very scrumptious bit of information to store for later thought.
