Six Smiles

"You win,fair and square,you win" Maya declares as she looks up at Lucas.

"Thank you..."

The blonde rolls her eyes.

"I want her to be happy," She pauses and looks at him dead in the eyes before continuing on "I'm gonna ask you a couple questions"

"Um..alright"

"Do you know how long she keeps her hair in straight mode and how long in curly?" She asked. Lucas gave her an odd look.

"What?"

Maya simply ignores him. Of course he doesn't know what she's talking about.

"Do you even know that she has six smiles?."

"She has six smiles?"

"Yeah, she does," Maya grits her teeth and her hands ball up into a fist.

"One when something flat out makes her laugh. One when she's laughing out of politeness,but there's one when she makes plans. One when she makes fun of herself. One when she's uncomfortable. And one when-wh-one when she's talking about her friends."

"I don't know those things yet, Maya"

"No, you don't, Lucas" She spat.

"I'm telling you, she is more of....a treasure than you can possibly know. She's not just some wholesome small-town girl,some good-for-you breath of fresh air. Lucas, she is a wonderful person with a huge heart" Maya felt tears threatening to fall, but she managed to hold them back. She doesn't want to look weak while she's talking about the only person that she loves.

Why wouldn't she? The girl that she's been in love with, since they were kids, is in love with a guy that has no clue how special she really is.

"Yeah" the cowboy nods his head like he knew that everything Maya was saying about Riley is something he already knows.

"And the kind of beauty that anyone only sees once, you know? Once," She steps back "Listen, Lucas, if there is even a chance that you could break her heart, please, just, for her sake...walk away, man"

"I could never break Riley's heart. Ok?"

"Good. Because if you do, I swear to God, I will tear you to pieces with my bare hands"

"You're a good girl, Maya."

"But apparently not good enough."
With that, Maya turns around to leave, but stops dead in her tracks.

"I trust you, Lucas. Don't make me have to regret it" she says sternly.

She leaves the room not knowing that Riley has been standing behind the door listening to the whole thing.
