New Years Kiss

Music, laughter, screams of joy filled up the Matthews resident. The children ran around and played in Auggie's room. The teens were outside surrounding the fire that they had made for the freezing wintery night. And the adults sat in the living room talking about jobs, money problem, problems with Donald Trump. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the night, especially two certain girls.

Riley Matthews and Maya Hart haven't been paying attention to any other teenager that was talking. They were too focus on each other to even care about what he/she was talking about.
They giggled, held hands, cuddled up to one another for more warmth and kept on flirting. This of course caught some of the other's attention.

Everyone became quiet as they watch their friends flirt back and forth. However, it wasn't a bad thing. Actually they were excited. They all knew that the two best friends had feelings for one another. It's pretty obvious with all the hand holding, nicknames, random hugs, kisses on the cheek, and how protective they both get. Not to mention how jealous they'll get when anyone flirts with them.

"Do you guys maybe want to go inside? I'm getting cold and um I kinda want to see who'll end up with who for their New Years kiss" Sarah - a girl from their class -said as a smirk made its way upon her face.

All the teens looked at her, all but two. Once again Maya and Riley were still lost in their own little world. They turned their attention back to the blonde and brunette. They watched as Maya leaned in and whispered something in Riley's ear which caused her to blush.

"Really?" Riley asked quietly.

Maya simply nodded her head yes and smiled at the bubbly girl.

"I have an idea" Yogi whispered to the others. They all huddled around him making sure that the girls couldn't hear him, not that it was any trouble.

"Maayyaaaaa" whined Riley.

"Rillleeeeyyyy" Maya mimicked with a grin on her face.

"Come dance with me, pleassseee?"

"You know I don't dance. I like watching you dance anyway"

"Pleaseeeee?" Riley begged.

Maya laughed at Riley being adorable as ever. She knew that no matter how much she says no, she'll always end up saying yes.

"Alright fine, but let me go get some soda, then I'll dance with you for as long as you want"

"Yaaaaaaayyyyy!" Riley exclaims causing Maya to bursts into giggles.

She stood up and gave Riley a quick peck on the cheek. She made her way through the crowd of teenagers and into the kitchen where she found two of her friends making out on top of the counter. Darby and Yogi.

"Geez, keep doing that and you'll end up swallowing each other's faces" She jokes.

"Oh hey, Maya," Darby greets. "where's your girlfriend, Riley?"

Maya blushes. "One she's not my girlfriend, and two she's dancing. I'm just getting something to drink and then I'm going back"

Darby and Yogi look at each other with wicked grins on their faces. They look back at Maya. Maya gives them a confused look.

"What?" She asked as she grabbed a Dr. Pepper bottle.

"What lucky guy do you think will end up with Riley at midnight?"

Maya choked on her drink. She set the bottle down and let out some awkward coughs.

"U-um what?"

"I asked what guy do you-"

"Y-yeah, I heard what you said. Um, I doubt she'll be with a guy or anybody tonight. I mean I don't think she wants to have a New Years kiss"

"Really? That's a shame, especially since Lucas was waiting for this night to finally kiss her. Oh well"

The mention of Lucas's name made Maya's blood boil. Of course he has to ruin my plan. She's never been a fan of his ever since he told her that he had feelings for Riley. That had been awhile ago though, so she wasn't so sure now, but nonetheless, she still found him displeasing.

"Why is that a bad thing?" She asked.

"Well its Riley and Lucas, they're made for each other," Yogi answered. "They deserve each other"

Over my dead body.

"And you don't think that there could be someone else for her?"

"Not that I can think of, why?" He questioned.

"No reason, just curious that's it. I should probably get back to Riley, um later"

She dismissed herself from the odd couple and made her way back to the back porch. She stopped dead in her tacks when she saw Lucas dancing with Riley. She bit her lip and clenched her fist. She watched as Lucas moved in closer to Riley. He places his hands on her hips. Maya's eyes widen at his move.

"ONE MORE MINUTE UNTIL MIDNIGHT!" Some random kid shouted.

Everyone found the person that they wanted to have their New Years kiss with. Farkle and Smackle. Darby and Yogi. Sarah and Ethan. Zay and Vanessa (yes she came to see him).

She notice Riley walking away from Lucas. She smiled to herself. Sorry, Friar, looks like you're not gonna get what you want.
She looked over at Lucas. She frowned when she saw him walked after Riley and grab her hand. He turned her so that she was facing him.

"FIFTEEN SECONDS!"

No. Not tonight, Fiar.

"AND TEN!"

Maya quickly made her way over to the duo. One thing she promised that she'd do was be Riley's first New Years kiss and she wasn't going to let some Texas cowboy take that away. Especially since she knows that she's risking their friendship because of it.

"NINE, EIGHT,"

Lucas glanced up and saw Maya heading towards them.

About time, Hart.

"SEVEN, SIX, FIVE,"

Maya began to get nervous as she got closer and closer.

"FOUR, THREE,"

The blonde finally reached them. She grab ahold of Riley's waist and spun her around.

"TWO, ONE!"

"Happy New Year, Riles" with that Maya leans up and smashes their lips together.

They saw the colors of fireworks. They felt butterflies fly around inside their stomach. Their knees seemed like they were made out of jello. It was like everything around them disappeared.

Maya slowly pulled away, but could still feel Riley's lips on hers. She opened her eyes and was greeted with a bright smile that formed on her best friend's face. She couldn't help, but grin like an idiot as well.

"Happy New Years, Maya"

I know its not New Years, but I liked this idea, so I just decided to write it. I'm sorry if it sucked 😅. I also wrote it because I've been giving you sad Rilaya so I wanted to give you something cheerful.
