chapter four: wanted man

if you're honest, you sooner or later have to confront your values. then you're forced to separate what is right from what is merely legal.

my head pounded, making my job a lot harder.

the bulky uniform all of us wore was back on, and we were storming in some apartment complex for a second time.

we were chasing a wanted man named lincoln, and a man tipped off his location. when we got there the first time, the man was dead and the lincoln was gone.

now i was behind a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, on an order i didn't get, arriving at a door of another apartment.

the agent walks in first, and i listen closely.

"-escape module ready?"

"change of plans." i hear the agent say.

i storm in first, my gun fixated on the wanted man, and walking around to make more room. banks steps into the room, his eyes holding dramatic effect, just like the rest of this situation.

"coulson's orders. we're turning him over to the ATCU."

i swallow hard, glancing at the three. one of them was the girl from way earlier, the agent we had just seen, and the wanted electricity man.

the girl, or woman, i should say, sways back and forth. "get coulson on the phone." she says.

"he said he'd explain back at headquarters."

there was a headquarters?

"-he's arranged for us to observe and make sure-"

"can we get on with this?" banks asks, interrupting them.

"this is crazy!", the woman exclaims.

"he said he didn't have a choice." the agent says.

"take him into custody."

the one beside me glances at me. "all you, denvers."

just as i start to step forward, lincoln turns, electrocuting all of us backwards.

"suspect's on the move. seal off the street.", i manage to say, standing.

"should we go after him?" the one beside me asks.

"no. bird in the hand. we take her."

"what the hell do you think you're doing?" the agent asks.

"following orders."

"do you really think you can stop me," the woman asks, "do you have any idea what i can do?"

i chuckle to myself, then remember the pain i felt when i hit the cement on that day.

i hear a gun shift and turn to attention.

the agent we had followed in pointed a gun at bank's face.

"actually, pretty damn good."

it was a long time of silence before banks drifts off, talking to rosalind, i believed.

"denvers, stay alert." one of the ones beside me snaps.

i sigh, nodding and pulling my gun back up. i had been staring at banks, as if suspecting something soon.

"i guess it's your lucky day,", banks' raspy voice says to the woman, "we're done. let's go."

i start walking by, and the agent, standing beside the enhanced woman and lowering his gun, staring at us.

when will my father recognize me?
