"How'd the battle go?"
Beau looked up from where he was stripping off his armor. Cinderella stood in a pale blue night dress. It was the exact blue of the dress she wore to the ball when he'd first laid eyes on her.
"It was more of a skirmish."
Cinderella watched him as he worked at removing his armor. "You didn't answer my question."
Beau sighed as tossed his jerkin on the floor. "It didn't go so well. Half of our men were slaughtered or injured. They were waiting for us. They knew where we were going to be."
Cinderella came forward and helped him out of his boots and leggings. Her breath caught as she saw the wound on his leg. Her gentle prodding a made beau grunt in pain.
"Are you saying that we have a traitor here in the castle!"
"I don't know love." Beau sat down on a three legged stool and watched as Cinderella filled a bowl with water. Be closed his eyes as she began to tenderly wash his face.
"It's a strong possibility. Whoever it is knows how Barrie fight. It could be one of the suitors who's disgruntled that she beat him."
"Are Barrie and Derek alright?"
"Barrie has nothing more than scratches. Derek's worse, he took the brunt of a blow that would've decapitated Barrie if he hadn't shoved her out of the way."
Cinderella was quiet as she washed beaus wounds and started to bind them. Beau watched his wife's face. Her brow was slightly furrowed a a narrow v had formed on her smooth forehead and her teeth worried her bottom lip. Cinderella only did that when she was worried about something.
"A penny for your thoughts?"
Cinderella looked up at him with worry in her eyes. "Are we in danger here?"
Beau thought about lying, but he had yet to lie to Cinderella and he didn't want to start now. He decided that Cinderella should know the truth.
"Yes. There is a chance that you and the children will be in danger."
Cinderella nodded as she dropped her head. She remained silent as she finishes tending to Beau. Beau say back as Cinderella stood up and slid onto his lap. She laid her head in his shoulder. Beau kissed the top of her head before he wrapped his arms around her. They say that way for a long time before Cinderella finally spoke.
"Who will protect is whole your away at war?"
"I have yet to think of someone I trust to watch you."
Cinderella raised her head and looked at Beau. "What about my Fairy Godmother?"
That was a brilliant idea. Beau wondered why he didn't think of it. "Are you sure she'll help?"
"She'll jump at the chance of being Fairy Godmother to our children."
Beau kissed Cinderella soundly on the lips before he picked her up and carried her to the bed. Cinderella squealed as he tossed her on the bed.
"Ask her tomorrow," Beau said as he crawled up the bed to join Cinderella.
