Rishab happily checked his list twice. This was their fifth wedding anniversary and he couldn't be happier. He was taking out Madhu on a romantic date (just like the one that she wanted, but of course excluding her favorite Channing Tatum from it). He was her in-house Channing Tatum for god's sake!!
He knew that they hadn't been out together in a long time. Maybe that was partly his fault. But now it was time to correct all that. He impatiently checked his watch for the hundredth time. What was taking so much time?
"Geez, man. Calm down your superstar tits."
Rishab turned around and glared at the man-child called Karan aka his best friend. As much as he wanted to reply back with a snarky comment, he couldn't because today his friend was his savior. But sadly Karan knew it too well and was taking full advantage of it. He was loudly munching off his third bag of munchies which was irritating him to no extent. God knows how he maintains that body even when he stuffs like a pig. With another heavy sigh, he flopped down on the sofa beside his friend.
Just then Madhu descended downstairs and his heart did a somersault. Even after five years of marriage, his heart did a flip whenever he saw her face. Cheesy? Yes, he knew it. What made his heart flutter with pride and joy was their eight-month-old daughter who was asleep in her arms. Ananya Kundra, the little princess who had her mother's angelic face. She had it either her way or no way. It would be an understatement to say that she had him wrapped around her tiny finger.
Madhu glanced at Karan who flashed a full-blown grin at her. She looked at Rishab with worry written all over her.
"Are you sure this is the right idea?"
He knew this was coming but he was very well prepared for it.
"Biwi, Annie will be just fine with Karan. He is her godfather!! You and I both know that he can do anything to make her happy. She will be safe and happy with him." He told her as he took Annie in his arms.
"Don't forget Madhu I put with your mood swings when you were pregnant. I can do this." Karan chimed in between.
"Besides we will be back soon." Rishab continued ignoring the goofball of his friend.
"Okay fine." Madhu sighed."But we are coming back as soon as possible."
Rishab happily nodded as he knew this was hard for Madhu. This was the first time they were going out leaving their daughter behind.
"Okay, so this is her baby bag," Madhu said holding a hello kitty diaper bag. "It contains all the necessary things. And please give her Pogo as soon as she wakes up. She gets cranky without him."
Pogo was a stuffed toy that Ananya Rishab Kundra loved more than anything else. Her parents who once fought over what her toys should be were disappointed when they found out that their daughter completely ignored the barbie and a car to choose a stuffed blue elephant.
Madhu kissed her sleeping daughter's cheek and left with her husband. They both went to the garage where Rishab stopped suddenly and went back home on the pretext of forgetting the car keys. Madhu smiled as she knew that her husband had gone inside to kiss their daughter goodbye. Apparently, he was very manly to admit that he was feeling sad about leaving her behind. But this was a change that they needed. And Madhu was not going to ruin all the efforts that he put in for her.
Rishab was nervous on their way to the venue. He wanted this to be one of the best nights of Madhu's life. What if things didn't turn out the way he wanted them to? Get a grip!! She's your wife of five years you idiot, he mentally scolded himself. When they reached the venue he quickly rushed to the other side of the car and opened the door for her.
Perfect. The only word to describe it. Madhu smiled contentedly as she dug into her favorite red velvet cake. She was so proud to have a husband who cared for her happiness before his.
"May I have this dance?"
Rishab loved the blush that coated her cheeks. The way her hand perfectly fit into his, the way her hands wrapped around his neck, and the way her head found its way onto his chest. Nothing could break this perfect bliss.
And just then he felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. He quickly excused himself and pulled away from Madhu. As soon as he put the mobile to his ear he heard a loud wail from the other side.
"Annie?" Madhu's heart skipped a beat when she found him found looking worriedly at the phone.
"911-911 Can you hear me?" Karan screamed from the other side.
Madhu quickly snatched the mobile from Rishab and replied. "Wh-what happened? Is everything okay? Ananya?"
"POGO IS MISSING!!!" Karan screamed.
Madhu sighed and put the phone on speaker.
"Karan? I gave you Pogo when I left."
"I know! But I must have misplaced it when I was playing with it."
Rishab facepalmed. He knew that idiot would do something wrong.
"Hold her in your arms. Try to pat her back or maybe sing a lullaby." Madhu advised.
"I tried everything!! I even changed her diaper. Maybe I did it wrong but it looks pretty decent to me. And what the hell do you guys feed her? It's like a stink bomb went in here. So much mess for such a tiny person." Karan ranted.
"Pat her and sing a lullaby. She will calm down in a minute." Madhu reasoned.
"Okay, I will try. Damn you, Annie. You never get me, girls, when I take you outside." Karan grumbled.
"YOU USE ME DAUGHTER TO GET GIRLS!!" Rishab roared.
"I-I- ahh I gotta go now. See you guys. And Madhu gives him some!! That guy is getting cranky and needs to be laid." And with that Karan cut the call.
Rishab and Madhu went back to their table but not a minute later Rishab shot out of his seat. Madhu smiled as she already saw this coming. Papa bear was way too protective of his baby bear.
"We need to go back Madhu. I will make it up to you some other day. I need to see Annie."
Later that night Rishab lay on the bed with one arm wrapped around Madhu who was resting her head on his shoulder and the other around his daughter who was fast asleep on his chest. This was the best feeling ever.
Even though the day didn't end the way he wanted it to but it was perfect for him. Seven years of knowing Madhu and five years of marriage was a roller coaster ride. But it was a ride that he loved. Filled with love, affection, fights, happiness, his little angel, and of course..............his jungli billi.
PS: The chapters are not related. So this Karan is different from Karan in the last chapter.
