St. Mary's school was full of laughter and chatters today. It was the first day of the new academic year and the first day for many tiny tots who would be starting a new chapter very soon. A five-year-old girl with cute pigtails was clinging to her dad's leg. Her red eyes and runny nose clearly presented how distraught she was at thought of going to a school.

"Stop crying my princess Madhu." Shamsher Malik cooed to his daughter. He bent down to her level and wiped her tears. "You are a big girl, right?" he asked playing the big-girl card. Little Madhu hurriedly nodded her head. "And you know that big girls go to school?" he asked.

Before Madhu could reply someone else replied, "Big girls cry but big boys are brave.". Shamsher Malik turned around and found a five-year-old boy standing proudly holding his mother's hand. He was wearing his school uniform with a handkerchief pinned to his pocket. Madhu quietly peeked from behind her father's leg.

"I am sorry about my son's behavior. Apologize to her now Rishu." Radha Kundra scolded her son who was too much excited to go to school and be a big boy. "But Mumma..." Rishab started but stopped when he saw his mother glaring at him.

"It's okay. Please don't scold him." Shamsher Malik told Radha and then he turned towards Madhu. "This is my daughter Madhubala. She is a bit hesitant about going to school." Radha patted Madhu's head. Sure the child was precious like a small flower. So innocent and fragile. "Madhubala. What a pretty name," she said and Madhu smiled from behind her father's legs. "She is pretty too." Rishab piped in between and little Madhu blushed a hundred shades of red. "Thank you," she said shyly and Rishab beamed at her. He's so smart, she thought. She's so pretty, he thought.

Shamsher Malik was getting a little uncomfortable watching his five-year-old daughter blushing over a boy. This little devil has already charmed his baby girl. He knew he couldn't do anything as the boy himself was five years old. But that didn't mean he won't take the necessary measures. He will make sure that no one harms his baby girl.

"Don't worry, I will protect you. Let's go." brave Rishab held out his hand for Madhu. She took his hand and then turned towards her father. "You go daddy, bye." Madhu waved her hand and Rishab picked up her purple Miney Mouse bag over his shoulder. They both held hands and went inside. Shamsher Malik stood stumped. His princess just ditched him for a boy.

"They look so cute together" Radha gushed breaking him out of his thoughts.

"Can I call you a hero?" Madhu asked Rishab once inside the school."Why?" "Because you are my hero. You will save me right?" Rishab beamed at her reply and nodded his head. "Okay, then can I call you doll?" Madhu just blushed in reply.

Rishab threw a major tantrum when the teacher asked him to sit with another kid. He wanted to sit with his doll. So they ended up sitting together. Even at lunchtime, they had lunch together and he ate all his veggies to impress his doll. And when another boy pushed Madhu in the playground, he got into a hand-to-hand fight with him and fought with all his might, well as best as a five-year-old can fight. Madhu was not behind, she glared at the girl who asked her hero for his water bottle. By the end of the day, Madhu and Rishab had unknowingly marked each other as their possession.

Many years later.......

Madhu frowned when she saw her very distraught husband entering the kitchen. She wobbled towards him and placed her hand on his shoulder. "What happened Rishab?" she asked wondering what could have possibly gone wrong. Everything was fine an hour ago.

"How could she do this? She's my angel. She's just a baby!!! I will break his legs." He fumed. " Rishab?". An hour back Rishab and their daughter went for her first day at school. Their process was sobbing all through the way. She was afraid of being alone but her father promised to drive away all the monsters inside the school.

"That boy." Rishab gritted his teeth. "Which boy?" "She met a boy and he charmed by daughter. She stopped crying and went happily with him. Madhu she is my baby, my baby!!!" Madhu sighed and turned back. So apparently her thirty-four-year-old husband was fretting over a five-year-old boy. "How could you be so relaxed!!! She didn't even kiss my cheek." he half yelled. "And now you know how baba felt?" Madhu mused. "Baba? Oh come on Madhu, I was the smartest five-year-old." He said making Madhu raise her eyebrow at him. "Sure," she said dragging 'e'.

"Who knows, maybe he is the one for our daughter." she winked. "Oh hell to no!!! I am sending her to an all-girls school. And getting a licensed revolver" Madhu glared at him and he dropped his head low.

"This one better be a boy. I can't handle three girls," he said wrapping an arm around her six-month pregnant belly. " And if it's a guy I am teaching him how to drive away other boys from his sister." Madhu had enough, she turned around, grabbed him by his collar, and pulled him in for a kiss. Making his worries fly out of the window, well only for some time.
