It had been three weeks into the school year, and Kathryn and Regina had become instant best friends, and after talking some sense into Regina, Kathryn managed to stop Regina from bullying her sister. In fact Emma and Regina were actually kind of getting along. Ruby, Belle, and Emma had also become pretty close and had weekly study sessions at Granny's Diner which was owned by Ruby's grandma. Emma, Ruby and Belle were at Granny's studying for a test, but they weren't really studying. "So Emma, now that you've been here for a few weeks, who do you have a crush on?" Ruby asked smiling. Emma shrugged. "Oh come on em, there has to be one guy!" Bell exclaimed. Before Emma could think about what she was saying, she blurted out "I don't like guys." "What?" Ruby asked. Emma shrugged again. "I thought you guys should know." Emma said quietly. "It's okay em." Belle said with a smile. "So what girl do you like?" Ruby asked. Emma began blushing but didn't say anything. Just then the door opened and Emma turned to see who I was. "Just my luck" she thought as Regina walked in with Kathryn. Emma could feel her face burning with embarrassment. Her friends stared at her in shock. "You like Regina?" Ruby whispered loudly. Emma's face became even more red, giving Ruby the answer to that question. Ruby quickly stood up and waved at Kathryn and Regina. "Hey come sit with us!" Ruby called to them smiling. Emma glared at her "Ruby no!" Emma whispered quietly so Regina or Kathryn couldn't hear her. Regina gave Kathryn a worried look before they sat down.

Earlier that day

Regina was staring at Emma during lunch, catching Kathryn's attention. "Why are you looking at her?" Kathryn asked. Regina immediately began to blush. Kathryn smiled, but also had a look of disgust on her face. "She's my sister!" Kathryn exclaimed. "I know, I'm sorry, but there's just something about her..." Regina said still staring at Emma. "Yeah she tends to have that effect on girls." Kathryn laughed. Regina immediately turned to face Kathryn when she heard that. "Are you saying that she's..." Regina began but was cut off by Kathryn. "Yes, Gina, she's gay, but you can't tell anyone or she'd kill me, then you, then me again." Kathryn laughed. Regina sighed. "She's so beautiful, but I've broken the hearts of every girl that I've been with." Regina said sadly looking down at the table. "It just wasn't meant to be I guess." Regina continued. "There's something about Emma though that's different. I don't know what, but when I'm around her, I just feel right." Regina finished. "Then why are you so mean to her?" Kathryn asked. "I don't know. Every time I'm around her, my brain freezes and I act out of fear instead of kindness. I want to tell her how I feel, but I don't want to break her heart like I have everyone else's." Regina said tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. "Look Gina, I can tell you like her, but out of the interest for all of us, please, don't go after her." Kathryn said not really believing what she just said. "I couldn't stand to watch my sister so upset." Kathryn finished. "Alright." Regina said, her own heart breaking as she made the promise to stay away from Emma.

"Hi Emma." Regina said quietly as she slid into the booth next to her. Emma looked up from the table and met Regina's dark brown eyes. "Hi" Emma returned with a little smile. "Damn it! Why did I make that stupid promise to Kathryn?" Regina thought. "If only she would be nicer to me... If only she liked girls..." Emma thought. Kathryn ordered hot chocolate with cinnamon for everyone. "So, who wants to go down to the beach later and have some fun?" Kathryn asked. Everyone smiled and chimed in. "Ok awesome! Sounds like fun." Kathryn said looking directly at Regina with a smile. "So, Regina we were just talking about our crushes! Who do you like?" Ruby asked. Regina hesitated for a moment before realizing that she could trust these girls to keep a secret. "I... Um..." Regina stuttered. "Spit it out Regina." Ruby said "I like robin I guess." She finally said. Emma's heart broke in half, she knew she might have never had a chance with Regina, but she never wanted to hear that! Emma frowned and looked down at the table, Regina noticing, and began to feel bad. Regina let her arm closest to Emma fall from the table, and gently brush against Emma's leg. The touch sent chills running through Emma's spine and she couldn't help but blush, which of course Regina noticed, but didn't realize that the others did too. Regina, Belle and Kathryn looked at Regina, knowing she wasn't telling the truth, but Emma didn't know. "What about you Kathryn?" Ruby asked. " Killian." She answered immediately. The group looked at her stunned. "Really?" Regina asked "yup!" Kathryn replied confidently. They all laughed, and after a while they were all having fun, laughing and telling stories, acting like best friends.
