Be sure that when doing ballet, you are properly warmed up. Also, if you are planning on becoming a professional ballerina focus on not just your technique but also on your strength and flexibility. Certain ways to tell if you're ankle is strong enough to withstand pointe shoes are;
•Roll your ankle and make sure when you do, it rolls comfortably back into a pointed position
•Pointe your toes, then flex, then pointe, then flex again. If you feel a slight pull over the top of your foot this is natural. If you feel a pull where your ankle and foot meet, try stretching and circling your ankle some more before putting your pointe shoes on.
Nutcracker season is almost upon us. Be sure that when practicing and rehearsing you do cardio such as jumping jacks, running in place, or sit ups before you begin class. Also, don't forget the reason for the season! I'm currently in the Party Scene, as well as Flowers and Petals, and finally in Flutes. If you are currently involved in a ballet theatre or company comment what your part is in your Nutcracker production!
