Taylor
"Chung? Taylor Chung, is it?"
I stood to my feet as the slender, mid-forties aged, woman called my name.
"Yes, my name is Taylor Chung. Nice to meet you." I smiled as best as I could while I extended my hand for a handshake; the woman obliged.
"I'm doing great. Thank you for coming and meeting with me. Follow me this way so we can begin."
I followed her through the office building as our heels clicked on the marble tile floors. We soon made our way to a high-end, glass walled office.
My confidence lacked at the moment, but I'm gonna fake it until I make it. I needed this job. I've settled for basic jobs, but I am more than qualified to for the position as an Executive Assistant at this firm. Cristian needs me to land this job. I've went on countless job interviews, none of them coming through. Never gotten a call back or second interview from any of the previous places. This morning, I got down on my knees and had a serious power talk with God. This was my only hope, so I'm going to give it my all.
I took a seat at the grand desk before me, placing my résumé on top of it.
"So, Ms. Chung, how did you come across our firm?" The petite woman asked.
"Well, I've known this institution to be one of the best in the Baltimore area. One of the top ranked financial trading companies in the country."
"Impressive. You've done your research."
"Yes ma'am. This place has always been a dream of mine to be apart of."
"Ma'am? You can all me Mrs. Harrington or even Helen. Ma'am makes me feel beyond old." She softly smiled as she spoke. I smiled in return, beginning to relax.
"Ms. Chung, I went ahead and pulled your transcript from Morgan State University. You're quite intelligent, with a minor in economics. I'm surprised you haven't been snatched up by one our competitor proprietary firms."
"Yea, me too." I mumbled under my breath.
"What was that? -I'm sorry I don't hear that well." Thank God.
"I um, I have just been waiting for the perfect opportunity to come it way. I have always admired this institution, so being here is an honor."
"Ah, I can appreciate that." Helen jotted a few things down on her notepad. "So tell me Taylor, what can you bring to the team here at Harrington Trading & Associates?"
I inhaled deeply as I prepared for the response that may possibly change my life. "Well, as you can see by my university transcript, I have maintained the highest performance standards. I'm sure your not interested in my personal life, but that was all done with a baby stuck to my hip with no help. Once my eyes is set on the goal, I go for it. And my son is my goal. He's the reason I graduated college with such honors; the very reason I sit before you today. In college, my focuses were based on business management and economics, which included areas of coordination. I can maintain an extensive database, if given the task. And I also possess a flexible approach. I won't be able to tell you that I'm the best person for the job, but I will tell you there's only one way to find out." I let out a final breath as I concluded my statement.
