After working at the firm for a few weeks, I was able to buy Cristian the things I couldn't over the past few years. I was able to give Ms. Miles something towards her mortgage and help pay some of the bills. I felt a sense of purpose. It's been forever since I actually had money in my bank account.
Since that day I ran into Jamal at my office, he's text me a few days ago. I hadn't responded to him because I honestly didn't know what to say. I haven't had interaction with a guy, even on a friend level, since Brandon and he turned out to be full of shit; I'm just convinced most men are.
Today, which is Saturday, Mira and I decided to have a play date with the kids. It's been forever since we actually hung out and I know Cristian loves Samai's company, so that's killing two birds with one stone.
...
"So tell me, how's work been going for you?"
"It's going pretty good. I definitely have a lot of work to complete on a daily basis, but it's nothing I can't handle." I replied.
"Aw Tay, I'm so happy for you. Like you've mom a long way, and I couldn't be more happier for you."
"Thanks Mira. You've always been there for me, and I really appreciate you for always trying to keep my head leveled."
Mira pulled me in for a hug. "That's what friends are for. Anything you need, I'm here. Anything Cristian needs, I'm here too. You both are like family to Samai and me."
We pulled apart from our hug. I truly was thankful for both Mira and Ms. Miles.
Just then my phone buzzed in my lap. I looked down to see who it was from.
"Look at'chu. Your hotline blinging girl." Mira joked.
"Girl, not even. It's not even like that." I replied.
"Coulda fooled me. Look, it's blinging again."
I looked down to see a chain of texts from Jamal. "It's from this that guy Jamal I met a few weeks back. "
Mira looked at me crazy. "And why are you ignoring him? From what you've told me, he's a super nice guy."
"He is." I replied.
"Then what's the problem? Why you ignoring dude?"
"I honestly don't know. I just don't know what to say to him. I mean, he's asked me out for lunch, but I have yet to take up the offer."
"It ain't like he asking you to be his girl. He probably just wants to hang out. Just see what he's saying." Mira ranted.
I decided to take her advice and actually read his messages and respond.
'I'm not gonna stop blowing you up until you answer my texts. I promise I don't bite', was the last message he sent. The other texts where simply Jamal just asking how I was doing and telling me to have a good day. And then, I started to fee bad for ignoring him.
"What's he saying? I wanna see too!" Mira pestered.
I smirked, "Nosy." I playfully rolled my eyes.
