"Hey, Mattie?" Laura shyly walked up to the older woman. She glanced around for the hundredth time, making sure that Carmilla was out of ear shot.

"Yes?" Mattie looked at the smaller girl.

"Do you know when Carmilla's birthday is?" She inquired, a little nervously.

"What? Why?" Mattie looked a little taken aback. Ever since they were turned, they had never celebrated their birthdays. Well, except for the one time when Carmilla was a new vampire, Mattie threw her a small party.

"She said that she had always wanted to see the Met, so I was going to surprise her by taking her for her birthday. I've been saving up." Laura replied.

Mattie smiled softly. "October 14. And let me pay for some of the trip, it will be expensive."

Laura grinned, throwing her arms around Mattie. "Thank you!" Mattie smiled and awkwardly hugged Laura back.

October 13. The day before Carmilla's birthday. The normally broody vampire was even more so the past couple days. It was as if she was dreading her birthday.

She was comfortably curled up in her chair, reading a book, when she felt a kiss being pressed onto her forehead. She looked up to see her tiny human practically beaming.

"Happy almost birthday, Carm!" Laura squealed. Carmilla grumbled and moved so her back was facing Laura. Why was she so excited for her birthday? She didn't even want to celebrate it.

"Pack you bags."

Carmilla looked up, shocked. "What?"

"We fly out tomorrow. I am taking you to see the Met."

Carmilla stared at her, speechless. Then she threw her arms around her. "Why? My birthday is nothing special."

"I want you to have a wonderful birthday. Because I love you, Carmilla." Laura replied, pulling Carmilla in for a kiss.
